trouble opening files

Lately I have had trouble opening pdf and ai files...never in the past. I send them to a buddy with corel or illy and they open fine. Any ideas...here are a couple from today..

The american custom logo blah blah file looks to be bogus, 666 bytes is kind of a strange file size, it just contains a bunch of plaintext inside of it as well, no real header format for any filetype I know.

The other AI file opened fine in illy and draw for me.
The PDF opened fine as well.

Using CS4 and Corel 13 on XP

Quit buggin' me
None would open in Flexi 7.6
the too kool logo will open in Flexi 8.6
Only the too kool logo would open dropping it directly into the program manager in 8.6
Logo brilho will load into the PM it does not display anything.
The american custom file is only 1kb and won't even drag and drop into the pm.
