Does anyone know how much of my current software I'll have to upgrade to make everything compatible?

VersaWorks 3.0
Omega Composer 2.61 - I already know must be upgraded to 4.0 I believe.
CorelDraw 9.0?
PhotoShop 7.0? (I know, I know it's ancient)

As long as you use Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise, you can always use the free XP Mode for older programs.

Software?
I have not observed any software that will not run on win7. I have some very old software that runs fine without a single hiccup.
Even Corel Draw x3 will run fine on win 7 32 or 64 bit.

I see no benefit to using 64 bit over 32 bit. That is to 98% of the users on this board. This is my opinion after months of testing both in beta and in actual usage.

I just converted back to 32 bit win7 version.

There is very little software that takes advantage of the 64 bit side. That means your regular old 32 bit software will run as a 32 bit application no matter what. There are very few drivers operating under 64 bit. Almost all drivers are 32 bit.

Finally, no matter what version you use. Be sure to make a recovery/repair install disk ASAP after installing either version if the OS. You will need it.

Otherwise depending on win7 itself to do a repair install is asking for a nightmare.

Cleaning and compacting softwares for the registry and hard drives will run on 64 bit but some of you will suffer a machine that will not boot. There is no recovery other than a reinstall.

Beware.

Only immediate benefit I see for a designer/sign maker is Photoshop CS4/5 will run 64 bit. The only thing that I could not get to install under Win 7 was my Epson 9800's

I have had a few things that don't work. All my normal print drivers, my wireless networking adapter driver. Starcraft. lol and some other things like that. But got me to quit playing games and tryin' to grow up.

UPDATE!

Just got off the phone with the vendor who sells me my software (Gerber Omega) asking about upgrading to 4.0 and he said if you run the 64 bit OS, your older Edge and older HS_15 plus cutter will not work. There's currently no patch to make it do so.

Whew! So I guess I dodged a bullet there. Won't be upgrading my Omega and won't be buying 64 bit OS.

Sounds like I'l be staying with 32 bit for now at least.
