UPS boycott

Unions do no one any good anymore. I don't know how they used to be as I'm only 30, but when my dad was in one, he didn't ever feel like it was fair to the employer for the stuff the union tried to pull. I would NEVER stop using UPS. They get my crap where it needs to be, on time. I think out of 12 years of deliveries, FedEx has gotten one here at a decent time maybe 5 times tops. Two weeks ago I had to sit at my office till 6:30 waiting on them to show up and deliver something that was to be delivered the previous day. The driver never even made the attempt...just didn't show up and no one could tell me why. FedEx is worthless in my area.

We simply can't exist without UPS, FedEx or the Post Office. They are infinitely larger than ALL of us members here at s101 put together. They can do whatever they like, but as long as I get what I need, I guess I don't care.

However, had these now.... ex-employees done this within a means the company would allow, then I'd have a different tune, but so far, no foul.

Getting all emotional will never solve it. Making up dumb scenarios won't solve it, either. It's business and ya either deal with it or do like ddarlak and stop using them.

"The company dismissed 20 of the workers after their shifts Monday and issued notices of termination to another 230 employees, notifying them that they will be fired once the company has trained their replacements"

Nice..

Still not a fan of unions.

here is my take.... Jerk employee #1 keeps running his mouth thinking he's irreplaceable and can't get fired.

UPS gets tired of his crap - fires him.

Jerk employee #1 gets 250 of his closest jerk friends to say we love Jerk #1 and we're orchestrating a work stoppage.

UPS gets tired of them also..... fires them.

I don't get what the problem here is.... You work and do your job and don't cause trouble, you get paid and keep your job. You are an ***, cause trouble, and don't work you get fired....

SIMPLE.....

I love UPS. Our driver has my number and if I am expecting something he calls me when he gets his truck loaded and meets me so I can get my package faster (his usual time is 2:00) I get stuff UPS everyday.

UPS was horrible for me when I ran a small format shop in 2007. I'd send an order to 4over that would be shipped to me in multiple boxes and it would take a week to finally receive all of them which were shipped at the same time. We use UPS where I'm at now and it seems to go well enough, it's much better when it's out going shipments. I prefer FedEX and thought DHL kicked *** before they fell apart.

I gotta say - UPS has been good to me. Hub is 1 mile from my shop, so I can pick up inbound shipments in the morning there if needed. I've had the occasional delayed package, but only when the big snowstorms hit in our neck of the woods. Rates are fair as far as I'm concerned and all the UPS drivers I know seem to make good money.

FedEx likes to drop off my packages all over town, and then eventually get them to me a week or so late. And USPS - don't even get me started. Our local PO rarely even answers the phone. A typical government organization if you ask me.

I just have to say that UPS employees are VERY well taken care of, I worked at a commercial laundry service for many years and we did UPS's uniforms. I saw many pay stubs and believe me, they are well compensated(at least for this area). There are many other corporations out there taking FAR more advantage of their employees than United Parcel. UPS is very much ran like a branch of the military and it seems to work very well for them. Those guys had to know they were taking a big risk.
Our local hub is outstanding.

Well that's good to hear that all those folks got their job back, although I tend to think they deserved to be reprimanded for organizing a work stoppage.

Hopefully everyone is happy now and it doesn't create a precedent for future incidents.
The article stated that the employees would be suspended for 2 weeks and the Union would have to compensate for damages.

Oh goody... a bunch of whiney "Man Babies" threw a fit, and mommy came to their side with cookies and punch, and said everything is going to be OK, I'll talk with daddy when he gets home. Everything will be fine sweetie.
