This shit pisses me off. Without getting into politics or US vs Canada arguments - this new trend of Canadian companies slashing 25% off of our sell price to compensate for these ridiculous tariffs? No thanks.

I've seen a few companies come up with similar policies and it makes me cringe. You're basically saying, we make so much money off you that we can slash 1/4 off our price just to keep you happy. Either that or you're so desperate for business you'll sell at a loss to keep the sale.

Either way, not a good look.

The other one I saw was for a high end custom award/trophy company in Canada, claiming "tariff relief discount" or some nonsense....really devaluates your high end/high perceived value product when you suddenly say you'll knock off 25% just because of some bullshit tariffs.

<End rant> Carry on with the conspiracy theories about Gene Hackman's dog.

I'm sure some companies will try in some part, we plan to absorb as much as we can, but I doubt the aluminum, forestry and oil industries will and probably not the dairy, lol. I just hope that this all doesn't completely destroy the relationship between both our countries. I do believe that most you Americans, don't believe everything you hear from Trump and you still care about your neighbors to the north.

I think that it's more the companies that ship low value, there are certain ways of shipping that if it's low value, the tariff's don't really effect it much.

Oh really? I guess I should read up on these tariffs to make sure I'm completely understanding how they apply. I've mostly tried to stay out of it because what is "official" today will be different tomorrow, the way things have been going.

We're shipping an order to New York today so I guess we'll see what happens between here and there and what it costs the client.

I can see where Canadian suppliers would want to help out their US clients (I really don't like the idea of our client suddenly paying a 25% tariff on our orders) but at the end of the day we can't/won't eat that margin.

I agree, can't eat everything, but we're trying to help our US customer's, as a large volume of our business is over there. As of right now, that's how it's working, think it's called free domicile, under Section 321 which has a de minimis, something like that, but like you said, it can change anytime, they might eliminate it, which will probably end up costing us much more, but hopefully this craziness ends soon. I for one don't want to hurt the relations between both Canada and the US anymore then it's already hurting.

We are a Canadian business and import into the US and buy from the US. This is both directly and indirectly through customers, distributors and suppliers.

How are Canadian and US businesses handling the new challenges?

I suppose we can add the additional Chinese tariffs into the thread as well.

I'm sure this will become slightly politically charged but this is not the goal of this thread. I'm hoping for a discussion that provides pragmatic and practical observations.

A general statement, not directed to your post... but If someone doesn't understand how Tariffs work, how it affects your business & your clients, you shouldn't be in Business in the first place.

A general statement, maybe. But for many businesses and consumers tariffs on goods travelling back and forth between Canada and the US have been a non-issue for nearly thirty years. So I wouldn't be surprised if for many this is a new issue not dealt with before. I spoke with a few B2B customers in the US over the past week or so who had no idea that there was even a trade war and that tariffs were being applied to Canadian and US products moving between the two countries. That being said I think they'll be fine despite their lack of understanding.

I think what is of importance here is that as long as the two federal governments are going toe to toe (and the provincial and state governments) there is no simple answer. Many strategies can be adopted to address the tariffs but we have our sights on a erratic and constantly moving target. Just when you think things are settled we have another announcement of tit for tat.

What I really enjoy is watching the divide and conquer practices that are in place. The Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick premieres talk about export duties on hydro. Saskatchewan talks about limiting potash exports. Alberta is looking at oil and gas export tariffs. Our non-elected PM, Mark Carney, is talking about striking back at the US tariffs and at the same time talking about how valuable the emergency measure act might be going forward. If not for being a family channel I would swear loudly btw.

Now the Ontario Premiere and the Federal Finance Minister are heading to DC for a meeting with Howard Lutnick. Really? And what will that accomplish for the rest of us?

I say we are being duped. Both governments are basically increasing taxes on their own people by creating a fake trade war. This is planned and will take billions out of the economy and put it ultimately in the pockets and off shore bank accounts of the already all to wealthy. If one thinks that Trump and Carney aren't still playing for the WEF team they are sadly mistaken.

You're right. I've never been concerned with tariffs in my 51 years of life in the US.

Out of all the people I know, under 10% have any real knowledge of what is happening in the world - right or wrong, liberal or conservative. 60% of the people catch a story here and there, the rest don't care. I have some very educated upper middle-class friends - many of them have no zero knowledge of anything posted on this thread and they don't care. A lot of people simply don't care to be bothered, and I can see why, it can be depressing if you think about politics too much.

She died from a virus, and Hackman died from heart failure. I don't think anyone whacked them.
Here's my thing about the virus she died from. They said it's caused from infected rodents. What kind of mess was their house in...? I can't imagine that their quality of life was in good shape. Either one of them. Its just a sad story.

Being fed exactly what you want to hear (the majority being completely wrong, misrepresented, or flat out willful lies) to play into your biases ≠ knowing what's going on.
Interesting because what I wanted to hear hasn't actually happened at all. But, what trump has done is a start.
I have wanted to hear that Fauci would be on the hook for the covid misinformation campaign. Now that we know it was created in a lab in wuhon and nih funded it. What I wanted to hear was that Epsteins files are released. Apparently there are a couple of people hiding some of the evidence and Pam Bondi is having to deal with that. What I wanted to hear is that Nancy Pelosi's insider trading has come to a halt and that she should be prosecuted JUST LIKE MARTHA STEWART WAS. And the rest of the ones who are insider trading. What I want to hear is that prosecution will incur on the Clintons, Bush and Obama for the complicity in various things they have done over the years - Human Trafficking is my real big issue, but Clinton and Bush were complicit for running drugs in the 90s. I'd be happy with them being held accountable for that one.

what's funny is that with propaganda, the whole point is to confuse the majority so they don't know what to believe anymore. Propaganda was outlawed in 1948 with the Smith-Mundt Act. Obama changed that in 2011. When he did, I thought, "oh s...t, here we go".

So, you say you're right and know the truth and I say I'm right and know the truth.

and looking at the responses on here, you might not be right.

And it has been real easy to tell on hear who listens to the elitist propaganda. It is fun to watch them squirm as the truth is coming out and they can't hide it anymore.
It's INCREDIBLE the amount of corruption that has been going on right underneath our noses. Oh, and my favorite is when they tried to tell us all that Elon found "transgenic" research and confused it with "transgender". When what he actually found was a lot of this..
$532K to “use a mouse model to investigate the effects of cross-sex testosterone treatment”
- $33K to test “feminizing hormone therapy in the male rat”

House doesn't have to be a mess for there to be mice or rats or native small rodents. In New Mexico the most common vector is the deer mouse. The virus is in its droppings or urine, and all you have to do is sweep out a shed that an infected mouse has been in and breathe the dust to get pneumonia.

Or go to a garage sale and touch things.
Or go to a restaraunt with less than stellar togo cup storage.
Or epstein gave it to her.
Or Fauci did it.
