Using a carport to wrap a vehicle...

Has anyone here ever wrapped a vehicle in a carport in the winter?
I was debating using a tarp to block the wind in the front and using 2 propane heaters to keep it warm...and idea if I should scrap this before I go any further?
It is a 2 car carport open front with a small opening in the back.
I would light it with free standing work lights.

We are in the middle of relocating and this is the best I have...any other ideas?

Make a deal with someplace that has inside space you can use in my opinion. I've done it plenty of times - we have a local place that does diesel truck service and has giant bays. $50 will get me a bay for a couple days if needed as long as they are not jammed and need the space themselves.

It's not all that cold right now, but when doing such a job, wouldn't you want to have a better environment to conduct such business ??

It can be done, but I would not want to do it. That was the only thing that was a must in every one of our 'moves' over the years. If we were moving, the next place would be ready to accept vehicles, or where we were we could still use it. Never scheduled anything not having access to a garage of some sort... and I've lettered thousands upon thousands of vehicles over the years.

My old boss did.... he did it all the time, but then again, we were out there lettering with a brush and a mahl stick. We just had to keep the paint from turning into peanut butter.

IMHO, it's pretty critical to wrap a vehicle in an enclosed area with temperature control.

In order to wrap a vehicle correctly the installer(s) must prep the vehicle carefully, removing any dirt, wax or grease that may still be left on the surface. If the vehicle remains outdoors the wind will blow dirt and other debris onto the vehicle surface.

Vinyl doesn't stick very well to metal or plastic surfaces that are cold. Vehicle wrap vinyl has to be heated with a torch to make it more pliable to fit around certain bends. The material is going to react in a more unpredictable manner if it is applied outdoors in the cold.

Just last week Chris offered to let me hook up my trailer at his business (AZ Pro Signs) in Arizona, if I drive out to the Wrap & Rap get together at his place in March, both you guys are true assets to humanity.

As much as I know, Pennsylvania is not located in the sunny south of the United States.
Wrapping in a « heated « carport is not a good idea if you are in a freezing environment, the quality of your work will suffer. Find a good place to do the job or use the generous offer Gino made, this will save you money and a headache in the future.

+1 to that. I will install cut lettering outside (heat guns are your friend in that case) but never a wrap. the cold is just counter productive to everything you do.

We have a carport on the side of our building. its completely enclosed now and paved with cement with electric for lights. If you can heat it sufficiently you will still have a hard time because the vinyl gets cold. I only do lettering in it or small partial wraps. the guys across the street let us use their garage whenever we need it. I would take Gino's offer.
