Using XR-640 as cutter only

Hi

We have a requirement from a client to produce cut patterns in a specialist vehicle protection film. The provided software (XPEL DAP) seems easy enough but seems to only want to connect direct to a cutter using HP / Graphtec protocols (HPGL or GPGL)

Is it possible to get the XPEL DAP software to work with the XR-640? Either a workaround or an installable print / protocol driver to get it working? The XPEL DAP manual states to just add the letters HPGL to the printer name but I can't see that working?

Thanks

Nick

Possibly printing from the software, using the roland_VW printer, and setting the queue a options under cut settings to enable "cut all paths" it might pick up the lines at cut marks.

Thanks

So I tried installing a generic HPGL plotter driver - it installs fine but I can not seem to set up a new port as when I enter the IP address of the printer it can not connect to it via TCP/IP

I noticed there is a Versa Port, but it won't let me add one using that port type

I tried setting the port to 'FILE:' - this creates a readble text document with what I assume is some kind of HPGL protocol language, so it feels close, but not close enough

I am thinking the XR-640 just needs that RIP layer in order to know what to do, I think an additional plotter purchase is on the cards :frustrated:

Just to conclude the thread (and because I hate finding unsolved problem threads!), problem solved, the generic HPGL plotter exported the file to desktop, we then changed the file extension to .plt and it opened perfectly in Signlab

Thanks for the help!

Hi, I got the exact same problem with a Roland VS-640i. Seems everything need to passe trough the VersaWorks software ...
I can't send directly to the printer.
Did you finally get it working ?

Thanks,
Lionel
