Valuejet Ink Problem

I have been having problems lately with my Valuejet leaving a ton of ink in the cartridges and declaring them empty. There is still around 4 oz left at this point according to my scale. (10.2 oz total weight 220ml) I understand that the printer has no idea how much ink is actually left and estimates by print jobs and cleaning cycles.

My first thought was that I needed a new capping station or pump, but my print quality is still perfect and I have never had any missing lines in a nozzle check. (I don't print every day)

If my capping station and or pump is indeed bad, wouldn't I have some missing jets? My current remedy has been to replace the smart cards, which is getting old fast. I have a new capping station sitting here, but I hate to fix something if it isn't broken, well at least in regard to print quality. Any thoughts or suggestions?

The printer estimates ink usage by nozzle firings and pump cycles.

If the pump cycles and an air leak between the cap and the head do not permit a good vacuum then the printer will think that it uses more ink that it really has.

Most likely either a dirty or damaged cap or dirt on the stainless around the head.

How do you do that?

+1, How much did it cost you for the card writer setup and where did you get it?

I was wondering how people used 3rd party inks. I personally would never use them, but I would love the ability to program cards. Fellers and Mutoh are great about sending them, but i'm waiting for them to cut me off.
