Vector PMS Color Chart

We have an older copy we downloaded from somewhere many moons ago, but it is the older Pantone colors, and doesn't have the newer colors. I'm looking for one also.

Yes,... and for those eager enough, "theoretically", you should have a printed chart for each type of media and combination of profiles that you typically use on an ongoing basis ------ this could lead to quite a library of archived samples ----JP

The problem I see here is that you may not be looking at anything useful.

If it does not match PMS, then what do you do?

I find a CMY mix chart output on my target vinyl to be far more useful. That way I can run a PMS swatch book across until I have a match then the swatch tells me what mix of CMY it is. Plug that back into the vector and done.

Then you find the next closest swatch that does, and plug in that number knowing that when it prints, it will be close to your target. I do it all the time.

That way you can save money not having to print any black ink!

Really it is a good chart to have, another tool in the tool box.

Well there are several schools of thought on this. I find it easier dialing in PMS colors on uncalibrated systems when K is not included. (less swatches to look at)

K channel allows me to tweak the color very slightly from where I have found the closest match.

There are similar charts out there with the K included if you prefer, either way you know EXACTLY what you are looking at...CMY (K) percentages on that file, using that RIP, using that Printer at that point in time. Change any one of those things (even printheads) and you no longer can accurately use that CMY (K) printed swatch sample. You have to print another for that set new variables. (FILE, RIP, PRINTER, TIME)
