Vehicle Wrap Artwork

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice, our design team lacks illustrative prowess. We use stock art for most vehicle wraps, and we would like to do something else rather than sticking low res images on layouts and then purchasing them individually after approval.

Other than the obvious memberships at Shutterstock and iStock, does anyone use any other resources for artwork?

Any recommendations you have are much appreciated. Thank you.

logos and inspiration

99designs has a lot of good examples of succesful design work and so does stocklogos, who are in kahoots w brands of the world to some degree. I like to check ffffound.com for creative trends when I'm stumped also.

We've been doing more inhouse designs just messing with photoshop etc.. I have a art background so that helps. I know what you mean though you nwant something different and want to get away from the storebought designs everyone else is using.

You have to pay one way or another, especially if you want to stand out from the crowd or be original... you are making money on the job you should not expect to use free or low cost art. We all know you get what you pay for.

Hire someone who doesn't lack illustrative prowess ... problem solved.

Being creative with how we obtain artwork is the issue, not so much the cost.

Anyone have any experience with freelance sites for artwork?

Also it used to be pretty common to buy a clip art book archive that came with a large amount of clipartwork on a CD. Anything more up to date still available? Website or print?

Hire better people and pay them what they deserve, problem solved.

Are you implying that all shops without illustrators on staff have bad employees and don't pay people what they deserve?

This is a thread about finding sources OTHER than stock websites for artwork.

If you have an illustrator on staff and it works out for you, great. Say that, but I don't believe that we are the only shop without an illustrator.

If you work at a even semi busy sign shop, and you don't have anyone who can work with illustrator or Corel.. then yes, you have a major issue.

Wait....hold on.

The name of your business is "Jthompson Designs", yet you outsource your design work to a shirt designer who is "darn good" and "cheap" (may I quote you?).

Hmmmm...........

He's saying "illustrator" as in someone who is a specialist in illustrative art work, not as in someone who is technically proficient at vector software.

If you have a high demand for illustrated work, yes, you should hire an illustrator or contract a freelancer on a semi-permanent basis for those jobs (1099 contractor).
