Versaworks tips, tricks, mods and inside info?

So... is there any online info on how to tweek VW profiles to make them work better for you? I have a good profile for my RF-640 (printing on 54") that looks great but
does not print as fast as my VP. This machine is cmykkymc and my understanding is it should be faster. Thanks Gene

Print throughput is affected by many factors, some which the user has control over, and others not as much. for example, the print swath is a function of the machine and is not user controllable.

Carriage speed is generally something that the user can modify on a Roland (faster carriage travel = somewhat higher throughput), and the other major issue relates to the pass count that is being used. Lower pass counts will generate higher throughput, but at the risk of increased visibility of banding. The trick is to find a balance between your Image Quality requirements, and throughput desired.

In order to be in full control of your workflow (according to industry best practices), you would want to build custom media profiles which are tuned to your businesses priorities in these areas.

Good points as you always have.

Do you know of any online resources that would help someone build custom media profiles, who has never done this?

I have the iOne spectrometer (older version) but don't really know how to use it to make custom media profiles for my Roland printer and VW.

:thankyou:

The place to start would be with a how-to document that Roland had published on their web site several years ago (they may have updated it since that time) on the subject of creating custom media profiles using Versaworks. One thing to be aware of is that the Roland RIP does not have the ability to generate the ICC Profile itself, but it is able to do all of the steps that precede that stage, including Ink Limiting, Linearizing, and Total Area Coverage.

You will need a 3rd party ICC Profile creation software (i1 Match and i1Profiler are two that have been bundled with the i1 Spectros over the years) to create the ICC. Once the ICC has been built, it can be linked to the media in Versaworks.

I also have an older iOne spectro that I profiled my current VP540 with 5+ years ago. I was 64 then and the years have worn me down but I should take another
look at that... and possibly Castek's coaching services. I have a new younger partner who will be dealing with this long after I am gone (way gone). I believe I used
an existing RVW profile and added my own .icc to it and tweaked from there. At that time I didn't have any time to spend on it, but it got me 5 years down the road.
I should add that I use Triangle inx so profiles were flat not available... there are a couple that look pretty good for my new RF but need to print faster. I am not and have
no interest in being a print provider so only need to please my customers. Thanks Gene

PS- I still would like to gather any hacks and info that I can and will post anything that I figure out that work.
