VersaWorks won't cut!

Ok we had to re-load all programs including Versaworks. Our Roland is printing fine, but files sent to cut won't do so.

Clues: In Job Settings/Cut Controls the box where you tick "cut all paths" is greyed out.

Someone suggested that maybe I had the wrong profiles in there. (I guess there's one or two from Oracal that don't have the cutting information embedded) So we took care of that.

Here's what we know:

Yes, we have the "marching ants".

Yes, the cutting carriage trots itself out there, finds all four registration points but then it just sits at "home".

Yes, we can print fine. So cabling isn't an issue.

Any help?

This isn't much help but my "cut all paths" is greyed as well and my machine is printing and cutting ok.

You may have to check "cut all paths" in the print queue settings.

However I don't think that's gonna help you. I think if that's checked it'll cut all the vector paths in the file, not just the ones defined as a contour.

Unfortunately that's all I got for you. I'm sure you've set it to print/cut or cut only. Normally if the "marching ants" are visible then the printer should cut.

Also have you tried any cut tests from the printer?

Check your media selected setting... the "cutting" choice may be greyed out if an inappropriate media is being used... ie: "LBV" which is a banner profile (and Versaworks is smart enough to know that we should not plot on banner material)

make sure you have set your "EPS" Margin(File Format tab), when you installed it went back to default of .00....make it .05 see if that helps.

also make sure your operation is set to print and cut and not just print (cut control tab).

Hope this helps,

What happens when you issue a "Test Cut" from the printer?
Does it still cut the square+circle?

Does this happen with all media and jobs, only select ones, or ones from X date forward?

When it "sits at home", do you mean it scans all four points, then goes back to cut, then just stops and returns like it's done, or is the cutter carriage actually sitting out just not doing anything? Are there any beeps/messages?

What about sending sample data to print and cut? Know it won't help with lamination, but should help troubleshoot where the issue is!

Thanks everyone. I've been out to a job site and didn't get back on the forum 'til now.

Turns out it was a combination of things. For one, when I reloaded Versaworks, I re-loaded from my original startup disk, version 1.5.

The tech tells me that version is too old to update VW to the current level. So I've gotten the latest version (3.2 I believe) and it's running well.

Also, turns out you need to select Sp-300v even though you have a sp-540v machine when selecting profiles from their list. Or it won't work.

So I'm cutting now. At least a test job sent cut. Still greyed out but I'm told from Roland tech that that is normal.

So now tonite I'll download all 456 Meg of their profiles, pick the ones I want, and discard the others.

Once again, thanks for all the helpful replies.
