VP-540 printing irratically, stalling

Hi all, an unusual problem has cropped up , i haven't printed for a week or so and restarted the printer , it had been on standby, and now the print head will come across the media and return to base then it waits for 40-50 seconds then comes out across media , stalls a few seconds , then returns and so on, it will take forever to print one cm, I tried different file types and the test print all similar results,its like it goes into finished mode after each pass over and back , thinks about it for a while then starts again, any ideas?

I have had a few problems like this. ALL caused by data transfer issues. Try hooking the Roland directly to the RIP PC.
