My year is going to be up on my Mutoh ValueJet 1204 around Christmas and was wondering if it is a good idea to spend the $2500 for another year of warranty.

Then hae them come in and do a clreaning, and calibration, and chenge the travers belts and following tapes...And while the tech is there.. pump him for every bit of data you can retrieve about doing this maintenance work yourself.
In teh long run it will save you..

Shop around for a warranty. You might do better than 2500.00

Warranties are seldom a good idea. If you're being charged $X for a warranty it's a good bet that you aren't going to experience $X in maintenance over the period of the warranty. The people touting warranties have their rationalizations all dressed right and covered down but the numbers are inarguable.

Warranty products are of more value to those selling them than those buying them. If it were any other way there would be no warranty products. You don't think these products are offered you because you're a wonderful human being and the warranter is great humanitarian did you?

Now comes the tsunami of horror stories of just how someone's warranty saved them from bankruptcy and perhaps debtors prison. For every one of these there are thousands of those who paid their premiums never received full value. Play the odds and you will win. A principle known to casinos everywhere.

I had to make that same decision... and I chose NO.

Reason being, my printer was running fine, and I had heard that in one year, it'd be highly unlikely to have that much in breakdowns. Depends on if you know your printer or not though. My first year..... I saved thousands. Now on my second year, I know better how to take care of it and milk it's life out, and don't have NEAR as many breakdowns as before.

You comfortable with your machine yet? Clean it regularily? If so, I'd say forget the warranty. If you're still having issues with it, by all means, it could save you some money. It's up to you, as only you know how much it has broken down in the past and how familiar you are with your equipment.

$2500 is a steep price for an education, but I gotta agree with Techman if you print a lot. It could be money very well spent.
This has been discussed before. Do a search for service contract, there is a lot of good info.
