It's called the art world. If you're really "good" you get rich people to pay exhorbitant sums for fecal matter smeared on a canvas. You just have to explain to them how clever it is. Wish I had the gift.....

Casting a wide brush or talking out out your ass, but whatever, since I kinda know his work.. what I admire about him is he gets to design they way he wants to. Hearing him speak, it's more like you follow your heart... the heart of his design may not hit everyone, but it motivates him. To me, thats what it's all about and it's why i got into it... reality of it is, I can only put so much "heart" into a fire evacuation plan.

Click on "work" or one of the other buttons and see if you see the pictures. The video feed works fine. (A bit choppy)

I wish I had that too. I've seen some "exhibits" that I swear I could have done better during my "not able to color within the lines" stage of my younger years.

I remember I saw one that was actually just a ladder with two buckets of paint on two different steps and they called it "portrait of a painter". It was for sale too. I could have done the same thing for 1/36 of the price.

If you say it's crap the artsy types simply say you're not intelligent enough to "get it". Makes them feel even more clever. But seriously... I wish I could do it. Well... I could probably do some wierd-ass designs but I just wouldn't get any money for it. That's where the genius lays.... getting money for it. (It's for sure that he's a lot smarter than I am.)

I think I'll go build a life sized elephant out of forks..... or maybe make a car out of toothpaste.... yeah that's the ticket... If I "sell" it right I'm a frikken genius... if not then I'm just another nutjob that does wierd sh!t.

Now that's thinking outside the box...what a great concept! He has some pretty impressive artwork too! Thanks for sharing Rick!

Again, a wide statement.. If I don't "get" it, I could care less what people think of my opinion. I'm confident in my knowledge and eye, that I know what's good. I had the same opinion of the guy till I met him and heard him speak.

I am in a constant mode of avoiding wide generalizations without knowing all the information....

Rick, I think we both agree that this Sagmeister fellow appears to be one very clever chap. (much like yourself)

I do think it's interesting to hear you say you thought it was crap too, until you heard him explain it. I prefer to take art at face value without explanation. It either moves me or it don't.

I also find it interesting that you seem to feel that you can't express yourself in some similar fashion. Of course, you can.

Interesting concept in web design inspiring, I can see he does great design and would have liked to see more, there was such a mix of stuff it was kinda tough to understand any one thing but knows he got it going on in design.

I never said that I 'liked" it after he explained it, what I said was after hearing him speak. I got where he was coming from... which is, follow your heart, that was something I appreciated. This ain't art, it's design. Most design is not subjective. Not all his stuff is crap, some if it is really good, but some is overly conceptual fluff, and I usually have a hard time liking that overly conceptual, brainy design. but even though I don't like it, it's coming from someone who really digs what he is doing.

I see. I was only able to access a few small images so I may have inadvertantly only seen the "crap" ones.

The webcam/homepage is a cool idea.

i do so love watching people work... but i need a wee bit more action than that. maybe someone could swing a hammer or something.
ooooo... or maybe after hours... one of them works late and forgets the camera's on... that could be good.

he's got some cool looking stuff.... i really wanted to get a better look at that button fly, but could only see the thumb nail. and then there's that photo with the guy with no button fly to speak of... darn... just a thumbnail there too.

I wish my design skills were so "crappy" that I got to design cd covers for David Byrne, Eno and the Stones.

There goes the idea that employees are lazy... it's 9:00 pm in New York and they are still working....

They aren't working. The chick on the big wacom tablet is looking at porn and the other one who wandered in was eating popcorn and holding an "ON GOLDEN POND" DVD case.

Although if you call them they'll wave (while thinking to themselves "Is this a stalker, a pervert, or just another dork?)

I know, I know....I have no life.

Pretty neat - covering a wall with bananas and photographing them as they turn black and rot away.

or possibly they have a forum addiction...ach ach achem...I saw a Dateline where these people were so hooked on a forum that, it was all they did day in and day out. This one time the forum was shut down for two days and some of the members were actually shaking from withdrawals... and one guy even died...maybe, er not

I thought that was pretty neat too...can you image the fruit flies in that place?

I like how in a lot of his work his messages fade or in that case "rot" away!
