What a way to start the week!

Well... not the way I was looking forward to starting my week! Come into the office this morning to find out there was a water valve leak in my production/storage area and there is a LOT of water damage! It's overwhelming right now, but I would estimate over $20K in damage to supplies & equipment. But... it could have been much worse. I just hate breaking my streak of NEVER making an insurance claim through the business. It's been over 20 years!

Fortunately my L25500 was in a different room, but my beautiful media racks from Yellotools (German made) and 99.9% of my media is toast! It's not so much the media itself after you get down a few feet... the cores are all soaked and warped!

Well... now to go total the damage and get my service guy in to assess the soaking wet $15,000 Graphic Wizard Creasemaster ....

That's terrible! Hope you get everything cleared up as soon as possible and get back to work!

This is why we have insurance!

Thanks for all the comments! YEP... it's good to have insurance! They said I'm definitely covered for this circumstance with $1000 deductible. That's just fine! It's the down-time that sucks! I managed to salvage 2 rolls of material plus the one roll that is on the printer, so I'm not 100% dead... so long as I don't get a banner order in today!! :roll eyes:

28 rolls of media kapootz
50 sheets of various substrate kapootz
And my beautiful media rack (the German made one from Yellotools) is very water damaged to the point where the pivoting holders are jammed shut!!

But, for sure it could have been much worse!

Hey Tim..... do you have 'Business Interruption' insurance ?? I don't think there is a deductible on that one.

Take in account of all the non-production hours you have, like calling everyone and re-ordering, removing damaged things and setting things back up and keep a good log on it. This is all non-billable hours and you will be completely reimbursed if you have it.

Anyway, sorry to hear you had this happen. A few weeks ago, we came in to find our Roland took a chit and had all four... 440 cartridges overflow and literally melted everything in it's path. Literally almost 1800 ml's came through cause we had just replaced the cartridges that Thursday or Friday before. Yeah, it even ruined the take-up I got from you.:frustrated:

Sorry to hear. Thankfully your insurance is helping out. I was shut down for six weeks with equipment failures a couple years back. Thankfully my "printers insurance" and loss of business coverage took care of everything.

I would have lost everything if not for my insurance.

Hopefully you will have a swift recovery during these stressful times.

Additionally, Forge. I'm sorry to hear about the break-ins. That stinks.

Actually, I do have the business interruption on my insurance... great point Gino! I will definitely track all my hours spent cleaning up and re-ordering materials. They want original invoices for everything also, so that will take some time too! Thanks for the tip... I don't think I would have thought of those hours as claimable! :clapping:

Many years ago we had to use ours when we were broken into and robbed. I had many many endless nights of trying to limp along with things broken until they were fixed. It went on for a long time, but to add to the mess, when the police came in to finger print everything, we weren't allowed to touch anything until they were finished. Well, they made more of a mess with their black powder and tracked it everywhere. They ruined artwork, files and other things around the computer rooms.

All in all, we had about a $90,000 tab in interruption alone, due to all of the problems we incurred. Insurance didn't bat an eyelash. The equipment portion was almost $185,000.00 on top of that.

Remember, that's in the day when an ANAgraph station cost $39,000 and we had two stolen. They were a screamin' 12MHz with a whopping 20 meg harddrive.

Hey, guess this will be a good test for that Scansnap receipt scanner you purchased...Let us know how well that helps in the search for receipts.

7 weeks ago we had water damage. Everything was ruined. Document every second of work you in there. I worked out my deductable. I'm in a small in Canada and my new equipment has been sitting at Customs for over a week. It's a bummer. I feel for you. Insurance keep saying they will pay for the down time but they don't understand all the customers I'm losing. I hope they sort it out quick for you. I never got a phone call from them until the third week. I told them I would get a lawyer ad 2 days latet I had a new adjuster and 24 hrs later a check. I can't wait to be operational again. All the best of luck. Just remember to record your hrs.
