What can't you live without?

I'm curious to know what everyone's favorite "thing" is... I mean what piece of equipment, hardware, software, tool, trick etc is invaluable to your business? What saves you the most time and money? What makes your job easier? What thing at work could you not part with?

Mine is our Rolls Roller Applicator Table. I LOVE this thing. We also use it for all our laminating so it is dual purpose for us. It works like a dream. We have even come up with a way to laminate prints that are longer than the 8' table by lifting the roller and CAREFULLY pulling everything back and continuing on from there. The longest piece we've done was 4'w and 30' length. The only thing we don't use it for is to apply vinyl to anything longer than the table.

We have a laminator that never gets used. It's a dust collector now.

The orthotics in my shoes. I can't stand for more than a hour or so without them....they're kinda like "contact lenses" for my feet.

Actually, and this is the truth, I am not into "things", I don't collect anything, I don't love things like cars etc...
I have been in the business long enough to know how to make do, without equipment

What I couldn't do without? People, I love people.

My signshop has an attached music studio. I've been home-based since I closed my commercial shop in the mid 80's and I love the spontaneous jams that sometimes occur with clients. They can peek through my interior office window and spot the drums or the piano and little "mini-sessions" occur a few times a month.

Now that sounds neat. Jam sessions anytime ya want. Could I bring my B3 and some tone cabinets ?? :rock-n-roll:

My awesome staff. I couldn't do this without them.

In fact, it's getting to the point where they no longer need me at all to do their jobs. What a great feeling! More time to join impromptu jam sessions!

Well, I can't say I ever jammed with any other sign people, but I did play with some heavyweights in my time. Was on the road for a short time, too. Took off from signs for a little bit just to do the road thing. But for years, played 6 nighters with some Sunday matinees and would paint signs all day and play all night. Not married, no cares, no nothing.... just fun and lotsa money.

As for lugging Hammonds and Leslie tone cabinets around..... uh-uh, not me anymore. Too old to do that crap.

Anyway, back to the thread of what you can't give up.............

Memories..... of all kinds. Pictures in my mind and all future ones. :peace!:

Yeah, was basically self-taught until I hit about 20 or 21. Then I took lessons to build my chops. Also play slide trombone and flute. Organ with full set of foot pedals was always my favorite. Still have two B-3's, several leslie tone cabinets, string machines, old electric pianos and one electronic keyboard which is really small. After touring and playing on the road, it was a blessing to just play within a 75 mile radius of home. And so-o-o-o-o much easier on my back. Around town, we had roadies doing all the heavy sh!t. :Big Laugh
