Had a broker contact me about taking down 2 signs that are routed PVC approx 12" x 84" for a tenant that has relocated. I was familiar with the signage and knew there was actually only one sign, not 2. So I submitted a price of $220 and they accepted and sent paperwork for me to fill out and then I read the following attachment in the paperwork! What in hell are these folks smoking? How many circus hoops do I have to jump thru just to unscrew a sign and dispose of it? Absolutely insane! I got better things to do with my time then checkin and fill out ridiculous paperwork and then wait 75 days to get paid????!!!!

Jobs under $500 for out of state clients and/or representatives will require payment at time of service, no exceptions. Call my IVR when you begin writing the check. Sign will be removed promptly within 75 days after payment clears the bank.
Seriously, we did a survey 6 months ago for a PERSOnationalNA company, that didn't think enough of us to pay their bill. Recently they requested another survey, and got the old invoice in a reply. They tried so hard to avoid paying and get us to go to site before a check made it here. Eventually they relented and gave a tracking number, once it made it to UPS and started tracking 5 days later, we went to do the new survey. Still awaiting that payment...

That shit pisses me off. I'd probably be inclined to go do survey and fudge all the numbers, make everything 6" short and see how they like it when some other sucker gets on site to install the wrong signs.

The part I find nasty is that its like there's nobody there except for an automated system and then they let you know that you will either get paid or you will not. The rest of it sounds like they just want to know that you've gotten there and left so they know how long the job took. Could this be a way of bargaining a price with you?

I don't know if I'd do this work.

IVR has become common for larger projects, and it makes since to a degree. Like, if you're supposed to tell the manager that you've arrived on site, so you tell the first manager you see, who is a kid punching out in 5 minutes, and the store manager has no clue you're there. Typically the time we are there is inconsequential, as the job has been quoted. Usually we get told failure to call in on the IVR system (oh, yeah, they want you to call from the store's phone also, so you're waiting for a customer to finish complaining at the contractor desk to ask to use the phone, reminds me of the 90's, sheepishly asking to use the phone to have someone bring some more lamps) would only delay payment, never have I agreed to a setup where I would not get paid for something that amounts to paperwork blunders.

Reminds me of a hydro print job from about 10 years go. I camo dipped a prototype game call speaker of some dude and did it as a rush because he had a meeting with Bass Pro or something like that. He wound up stiffing me and ghosting me over a couple hundred bucks. Then out of the blue a couple years later he sends a message asking if I can dip 4 "high-end" 3D printed samples for him (I'm guessing he didn't realize he was contacting the same company or something:popcorn:). I of course said "sure, send them down", and as soon as they were safely in my hands told him I'd be happy to start work on them as soon as the previous invoice AND the invoice for these parts were both paid in full. :software

They sat out in my shed for about 8 or 9 years waiting for that check and then I eventually wound up throwing those very expensive looking parts in the dumpster a couple of years ago when I moved. :roflmao:
I'm pretty sure I fucked him out of more money than he fucked me out of, and I feel 100% ok about that. :clapping:

As a general rule, tell all agencies to eff off. Most of these companies hire teenagers, backed up by ridiculous contracts so the owners have less to worry about. These guys know nothing about what they're asking you to do (and it's unlikely they even read the terms of the contract they pasted into that email). They're just there for a summer paycheck. On occasion, maybe accept a job from a legit business that pays you up front for a reputable client. To hell with the rest.

Also, double or triple your prices for out-of-state jobs. These companies have ZERO loyalty to you. They're just looking for any company that fulfills "their" contract. Paying you is the least of their concerns. Either make it worth your while or continue to focus on the companies that actually do pay your bills. We are professionals, not hungry vermin.

Its their worksite, they set the rules. Unfortunately if you want their business you have to play their games. I think its BS but that's the way it goes.

I deal with this quite often with construction company's.

thats true! BUT why does everything today have to be so damn complicated? Work is hard enough dealing with day to day BS without having to fill out "mortgage sized paperwork" to do a damn job! Im so over these coporate entities that try and dictate how people work

This is insane to me. And as I think that, I realize I still have a past client trying to sneakily call me on private numbers to get me to talk with him. They stiffed me on a measly $175 bill on solid SEO work after literally designing their website/shop for free. And were upset when I stopped answering their calls for more free work and support after. I try my best to save my clients as much money as possible while giving them the absolute best quality I can deliver. The bare minimum I expect is my very very VERY discounted quote to be paid before more work is done. People love to take but never like to give it seems.

That was straight to the point. I can see where you were thinking of the right way to describe the scenario. Disastrous was good.
