Marlene,

I buy that under the brand name Alumalite. It comes in 6 mm and 10 mm, white and colors and a low end white with bare aluminum back. I'm not sure from your photo what is different about the one you received or what you were expecting. Maybe an aluminum composite panel (diBond, OmegaBond, etc.)?

what I got was alumacore and what I wanted was alumalite. alumalite is heavier, has a better supporting core (see photo below). was wondering what the matical I recieved was as I've never seen it and it feels cheap.

I've never seen alumalite myself, so don't feel bad about not recognizing alumacore, lol. It IS a cheap junky product in my opinion, I hate using it.
I will look into trying some alumalite next time someone asks about alumacore!

thanks, I don't feel so bad for having no idea what this was. I hope to never see it again as it looks horrid and feels like cheap junk. it is one small step away from coroplast

I've only used the 1/4" thick stuff not the 1/2".
Last time I ordered some, one supplier had Alumalite with black center, and another Alumacore with white center.
For post and panel signs, I liked the Alumalite better, but it does dent easy.
Always tell self installing customers just to barely snug the screws or they will crush it.
It is a rigid product if handled carefully, but a beer bottle, etc..would put a good dent in it.

Even though it's less rigid, I mostly use the dibond or maxmetal when possible.
Haven't needed any, but now there is heavy duty versions of these products.
