I'm getting more & more of these ads, which are literally advertising here. I don't know if they're paying MMs or just random, but I can tell you I never as in NEVER solicited any of the ads I see plastered all over this site. On my phone and tablet, it's far worse.

Just becoming really annoying.

The ads are WAY worse for me on the desktop. Not so bad on my phone. It always makes me laugh when I start seeing ads that are relevant to whatever threads I've been reading. Not clicking in to them (though you are guaranteed to get spammed if you do click on it). Like it knows what content you are reading - not so much googling/searching or clicking on links.

The OP has premium status....
That is what I was getting at. I had thought that paying for that level cut out the ads. However, it's easy enough to cut those out and don't even really need to use ad blocker for it.

While I get why needing to subsidize the site through ads (although not a fan of Google ads, I personally would have just subsidized it thru the Merchant member ads, but it also depends on how many are MM members as well and if that is doable), there is always a balancing act of subsidizing and how much can UX take a hit.

That is the problem with this site. Admin has turned on adds for ALL locations to maximise profits. How do i know? I've build a few XenForo sites for friends.
If the site Admins gave a S**T, they would target actual related companies and only advertise for related companies. Take a look at https://printplanet.com/. Only related companies advertise.

It's not even about the community, just ROI per site...

Mine are ads about seeing celebrities in bikinis.... I need to stop clicking them so I get something new.
A friend of mine on facebook went on this huge rant about how facebook is getting inundated with partially nude women. I thought he was pretty tech savvy but apparently he wanted to make sure his wife knew that he wasn't clicking on anything he wasn't supposed to.

pihole. no adds anywhere :)
Same. Of course, there is always the poor man's version (for those on Windows as long as they still allow editing the file, I think they were toying with making it read alone for awhile) is the host file. But that would have to be done on a system by system basis.

Fun fact, that is how those old programs that blocked the notifications/"upgrade" to Win 10 worked. At least the initial versions.

Nothing has changed, still used for blocking software pinging back to their server.

Of it was read only, there would be a patch to over ride it for sure. It gets used for web development. New website loaded on a remote server. Put the IP and host in the hosts file. It's just more annoying now with hsts.

MS was toying with it. I don't think it made it past the days of Win 10S though.

Just give it time.

If it happens, there will be a patch on GitHub to override it with in a few days. It happened with something with permissions back in win7. I forgot what exactly
