What material for printing non-glare photo backdrop on Roland SP540i

Hi,

I'm very new to this, my Roland SP540i is coming in late this month. I'm currently planning for the material i should invest in for my upcoming new business.

I would like to print things like photo backdrop, table runners etc..
So far I've researched that some uses tarpauline, tear-resistant 7mil polypropylene or 100 percent easy-wipe polyester or water-resistant paper. THe important thing is i would want it matte or satin finish so that it doesn't cause glare due to camera flashes.

Fabric Banner Material...

I use UltraFlex's Ultra Poplin PES C240, it's a 7.1oz 100% polyester fabric that prints well on our Roland Eco-Sol printer. You can fold it, roll it, and when you lay it back out or hang it up it's almost wrinkle free and low gloss. For runners, table throws, etc I sew the hems for a professional look, I have also made wall banners and backdrops tiled together with pretty good success (last large ones I did were a pair of 14' high by 30' long banners to cover 2 walls in a conference center). The only downside I can envision to this as a photo backdrop is that it is not a block-out material, can have no light from behind, hung against a wall would probably be best. The only pain about this product is that the side coated for solvent printing is in, have to load reverse which our printer doesn't like, so I keep unrolling it letting it hang loose with a cardboard tube hanging in it for a little tension on the feed side as it prints.

Any 13 oz Matte works. We use BeBanner (N Glantz). Inexpensive, and pretty consistent so far.

We use 13oz scrim matte on a regular basis for this exact purpose. Backdrops, step and repeats etc.

What profile are you using in versaworks to print on this material?

Unfortunately I don't use VersaWorks... I use Ergosoft and create all my own profiles.

I would just use a 14oz matte scrim banner. The matte has little to no glare and you should be able to get it cheap, especially in Singapore. Polypropylene is great stuff but more for retractable banners and tradeshow graphics. Expect to pay around twice as much as you would for the 14oz banner.

You will likely have to seam the banners too as a 52" backdrop likely won't be big enough.

Had a customer who ordered 10'x4' matte banner for his youtube show.Long story short, he said it has to much glare, since he was using light sources etc. So in my experience thats not always a good option
