thread can be erased...

really? what is the difference? the white is both rated for 7 years?

:frustrated: almost sound the same from what i read and been on the phone with tech 4 times in the past week. Same person answers the phone every time so i cannot get nothing but the same information.

I need the info for police lettering and striping - all cut vinyl

Looking at the spec sheet for 5100, it says to use 680 for inkjet printing, so that is probably the main difference? For cut lettering this won't matter though.

About $1000....

Really though, the 680 has air release adhesive for one. Other technical difference I'm sure are there as well.

We do not use either but we have used both at times in the past. I have to admit, the 680 is the nicest reflective to install I've come across yet.

Just far too expensive though. Can get very few customer that are willing to spend that sort of money on it.

One of my contacts at Grimco said the vinyl is actually the same but the adhesives differ. I was told the only other difference was that the 5100 is not intended for printing so they do not take the same precautions in manufacturing as they do with the 680. I can not confirm or deny this. I am just passing the information on. I can say that I have UV printed 2 rolls of 5100 and never encountered any blemishes.

i thought all the IJ5100 and IJ680 series were for inkjet printing.....

3M, come on now! Your stuff is sooooooo confusing with all your technical reading behind it.

I just need simple answers. I like how Oracal has one book and how it works. KISS method is so much better in their color chart. 1 book with all you need to know, thickness, uses, outdoor life, shelve like, and every vinyl they make. 3M it's like finding a needle in a hay stack! Make that 10 hay stacks. I think i've found 5 different web pages relating to one series of vinyl, then don't forget the 3 books they sent me and 2 pdf's.
