What would cause a distorted print?

I have a Mimaki JV3-160SP. What would cause a distorted print as seen in the attached file? The red is suppose to be a straight red bar.

Mind did that once with a bottle of Jack D
Clear out old files makes a difference as well. Many resons for this type of thing

we have cleaned the encoder strip. it looks clean but can the strip go bad over time from cleanings. to show how bad it is, the red strip is on a banner 3" wide.

Honestly, that looks as if something is changing your signal to the printer. I don't know the technical terms, but I'd start checking your connections for some sort of interruption.

do you do your own alignments? maybe you have some extreme variables inputted that is throwing your machine into a mathematical hissy-fit?
