What's going on over at Advantage?

I don't know if anyone's brought this up, so if it has been, I apologize.

Anyone know what's up at Advantage? We've been with them since about 1995, and never bought from anyone else through those years. They've always been great to us, great service, great pricing, etc. I found out about a year or so ago now that my equipment sales rep had been let go, and then a week later my rep that I order supplies from was let go. From there, they just tossed me around from person to person and I constantly had to babysit each order, and make phone calls when I was charged too much, not sent the right thing etc.

It finally came to the point where a product I had just ordered wasn't available, and when I called to order the product they said "we have something comparable and it's a couple dollars more than the other product" which I'd ordered two weeks earlier. I said go ahead and send it, and it was special order, and I get the order statement two days after the product is delivered. Normally I get it the same day before anything even ships. The product had gone up 67% and they didn't feel the need to tell me that when they said "a couple dollars more than the other item". So I figured it's $2 more than last time...nope, it's $80 more than the last time, and no heads up. I asked them what they wanted to do to make it right with me and they said that they didn't feel they were in the wrong for not telling me.

Right then and there I cut ties that we'd had for 20 years. I'm done. I would NEVER consider doing that to a company that had been a customer for 20 years, and can't believe they were ok losing that relationship over an $80 situation that was lack of communication on their part.

So then the story gets more interesting, and about three weeks after I'd started buying from Fellers (who matched every price, and has been taking great care of me) I get a phone call from Mimaki asking me where I get my inks from, because they are no longer doing any business with Advantage, and wanted to make sure that all of the Mimaki owners are taken care of. I didn't ask questions, but told them I thought that was interesting that they left shortly after me. I'm assuming something ugly went down w/ them too, and I've heard from talking to my old equipment rep, that he's heard a lot of the same stuff of them just burning bridges lately.

Anyone have this happen to them? I know a lot of people weren't fans of them in the past, but I never really had a complaint till the last four months I'd say when it got really bad.

I cut ties with them 2 years

I cut ties with them 2 years ago after buying a Graphtec FC demo cutter. The two boxes were shipped to a resident in north west Wisconsin. I took a week to have it ship to me. Parts were missing and when asked I was told is did not come with a catch for the vinyl. I got all the parts but the brackets for the media basket. The shipping department just gave excuses and were indifferent at best.

Been great for me and reason for mimaki..

My experience has been great and I have had issues that they were able to resolve and it wasnt their issue... From sales staff to warehouse staff to ATS they were all on point. As well, I would dig deeper into why they no longer carry Mimaki, believe me not so simple and from my understanding it is Advantage who cut ties as they felt Mimaki wasn't standing behind certain products.... I may be wrong but I would dig down. I would suggest reaching out to Javier M and let him know what has gone on and I feel he would be right on top of it.

I'm sure we'll never know all the reasons why these companies cut ties, but I can surmise this:

Mimaki has a problem with Advantage and cut ties.
Mimaki has a problem with Grimco and cut ties.

I'd say Mimaki has a problem.

Advantage fired my salesman and my inside guy and the company stopped contacting me, so I stopped buying from them. Pretty straight forward and I feel no sense of loss.

We got our HP L260 from them. I needed service/tech help recently, and per their recommendation, called their service department, ATS. Absolutely no help whatsoever. Never even sent a tech. "You gotta call HP directly". Then why do they exist? Also needed a part for the printer, and I called Advantage. After 3 guys tried to locate any info for this part (it was simple, a spindle hub) they said "you gotta call HP directly". I gave up and called HP. Won't be bothering them with any parts or tech help, since they apparently don't do any of that.

Mimaki has MAJOR problems right now, and Advantage is probably not helping them much either, and I don't really blame them. Honestly there is probably not a bright future for Mimaki anytime soon. If your Advantage reps are anything like ours they never miss a week to promote the latest HP latex printer offer to you via email/phone/visits.

How many Mimaki Latex printers are they selling?

I have never had any major headaches out of Advantage that I can recall. Been using them for 6-7 years now.

three times in the past 6 months, they've dropped my net terms to Credit Card only when I hadn't placed an order for a month. without notice, as well. its just gone one day.
each time I have to call to restore it, and the woman is never available when I call and have to wait nearly a week for a reply.

they've always been good to me with pricing... when I actually had a sales rep, who no longer works at AGS.
they're currently also my only ink supplier, so I never wanted to over-use the account in fear of being stuck unable to order in a pinch....as it has happened numerous times before, where they don't give me a heads-up that they placed my order on hold until my previous balance was paid in full.
