When to change head height?

Is there a set thickness when you need to change the head height? I have a SP-540v. I'm currently experimenting on a 24mil art canvas. Seems to work fine just wondering. Thanks in advance for any input.

I have the roland sp-540v and at first did the head height adjust for banner high and vinyl low and found it all works best on low. I only have printed on some 13oz banner, pvc non curl, calendered vinyl, and maybe a few prem cast vinyls though... no canvas. The high setting gave off some fuzzy edges and lower quality so I never move it.
