why would a city spec gatorboard for simplistic info signs

I have a client who sent me a spec from the city, which is probably so far out of date...in any case they are 18 x 24 inch signs that get nailed to areas of construction explaining something related to not storing hazardous materials near the trees. I have done these signs many times over the years using 4mm coroplast with no issues... but can't figure out why the spec would be gator foam? any ideas?

Because somebody is trying to be overly specific to make sure you understand them but they don't know the correct terminology.

I have people refer to coro as foam board and gator foam a few times a week.

Touch it and it gets a dent in it, I hate the stuff and belittle people you want me to use it, mostly artsy types.

might just be making a reference to any material that doesn't have the corrugated flutes of coroplast.

win some points by just asking them their intention, and recommend dibond>gatorfoam for obvious reasons.
