Wind Damage

SignStudent

The aluminum peeled away from the plastic on my alumacorr sign during some heavy winds last night. Defective product or did I just do something wrong?

In case it's not obvious, there is a seam where it's pulling off because I had to use a 4' section and an 8' section.

Wow, that doesn't look good!

Because you are in the sign business, you might want to fix that right away, so customers don't get the wrong idea about your quality.

Wow! That's some serious wind. If the sign stayed up there despite the wind I'd say you had mounted it correctly.

Sounds like it should be under that time period to at least call them and ask the manufacturer about it. I would think that if YOU did something wrong then the whole sign would've pulled up. But only part of it - their part of it - came up.

I'd call them.

Hold on there cowboy.

How did you finish off the edges before or after you applied the print ??

Did you seal them with anything ??

  1. They should have the voids completely filled and sanded flat.
  2. Primed.
  3. At least two top coats of paint.
  • Now proceed to installing your graphics.

If all you did was run a roller of paint down the side, I would imagine your warranty is void. If you did nothing to the edges.... you're definitely S.O.L.

Who does anything to the edges of alumacore? I know we've never done anything to the edges. It comes from the supplier, we pull the plastic sheeting off and then apply and install. Never knew we were responsible for protecting the edges...

What kind of core does this stuff have ?? I was under the impression it was a plywood core. Aluminum on both sides sandwiching a piece of 5 ply wood.

If it's not wood, disregard what I said.

its corrugated plastic. your thinking omega board i believe

No-o-o-o............

#6. Wood veneer or wood inter-ply delamination. (The wood
veneer and wood inter-ply laminations may be warranted
by the wood mills supplying materials to Nudo. Please
contact Nudo for a copy of such warranty.)

All under: This warranty does not cover:

So with this being a wooden core, I presumed the edges had to be dealt with if for nothing less.... for common sense.

Again, if this is not a wooden core, I apologize.

Alumacor image below.

If it's the NUDO brand I had the same problem with a couple of sheets I bought first of the year. You could see the "bubble" in the aluminum where it had delaminated from the plastic. Fortunately I hadn't lettered it and my supplier took it back with no questions. When you go to remake the sign ask your supplier to get you a 12' sheet of alumacor and avoid the seam altogether.
