Windows 7 with roland sp-300V

Good morning all,
I hope this correspondence finds you all well. I saw you were discussing a similar problem regarding using Windows 7 with an Roland Sp-300v.
Here is my challenge. I have that printer which worked on a windows 7 desktop fine till it died. I have a replacement desktop that i purchased from newegg online that i'm trying to get to communicate with said printer. If I try to run the versacamm drivers disk for USB it says that I have missing spoolers. I'm not of the tech world so Ive looked at other threads trying to understand what that all means. I did go to Rolands site and downloaded the printer drivers onto a thumb drive, but when attempting to upload the message changes to..."printer drivers cannot be added drive module....and I don't remember the rest of the terminology.
Further I watched a video from Roland regarding installing a printer driver but i'm not sure at this point if i've over looked something silly or if i'm over my tech head.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

you MUST have an ethernet port
LOOKS LIKE A BIG TELEPHONE CONNECTOR
if you bought a real oddball you can add. one for $20 or buy a USB/ETHERNET adapter for $20.

You can install and configure the usb Ethernet adapter without taking the cover off the computer

either way you need an Ethernet cable

get the adapter we will talk you through setting it up

Is your new desktop running Windows 7 ?

I don't know how many USB to ethernet adaptors I've tried over the last 20 years but none have worked for the SP300 which indeed is USB only. Point of fact you don't need the drivers if you're printing from VersaWorks, I've never installed any drivers for any of my Rolands. The RIP talks on a totally different port to usual printers which appears to be why USB to ethernet adaptors don't work. Best workaround I've managed is boosted USB cables which I have run up to 30mtrs.

USB's good until it's not and when it does go wrong it can be really tricky to flush out. A lso there's something on the SP300 boards that degrades with age and they become very fussy about getting chilled near the USB port, in the last 22+ years every SP300 I know of including mine have gone down the same path with connectivity slowly degrading although I've managed to keep my 3 SP300's functioning ok, optimal USB cabling and the computer's USB ports become a critical issue.

If you're trying to print from other software such as Corel, Illustrator, whatever then yes you will need the drivers installed otherwise ignore them.

To run an SP300V on Win7 you shouldn't need any drivers. Connect from the PC to the printer with the USB cable ( as the SP300V doesn't use ethernet ).
The drivers are contained within Versaworks, so as long as your USB connection is working VW will detect the printer. VW doesn't need windows print spoolers or drivers as the data for the print job isn't sent from Windows like on a desktop printer, it is sent directly from VW instead

I run my SP300V from a Win7 laptop, and when I bought a new laptop I just installed VW on it, connected via USB and it worked fine.

Ok. I answered your question without looking up your model printer.
assuming it was printing with the old pc it will print with the new one

(1) test the USB port you are go8ng to use.
plug a flash drive into the usb you are. Going to use.
does it mount the flash drive & give you a drive letter?
write a file to the flash drive . If you can read the file after copy the port is good

(2) verify That your user has ia an administrator on windows 7

(3) open device manager.
be sure the usb is disconnected from the pc
disconnect any other usb devices just to be thorough
At the bottom of device manager screen, expand usb Ports and devices
delete any “composite devices” listed
there may be quite a few, depending on how many usb ports there are & how many times you have tried this

i am unclear, you say there is no ethernet port. Does this mean your pc was never connected to internet?
do you have a Wi-Fi adapter?
If you have never connected this pc to the internet we may be in a grey area.
certain components need to be downloaded from windows update for the first time.

but. Let’s try this

assuming you’re RIP is properly installed, open it.
keep device manager open and expanded.
power up printer.
plug in the usb and you Should see a pop up notification of some sort on right side of taskbar, next to the time.
at the same time the list of devices in device manager should collapse then refresh
uou should gain an entry for ”usb printer support”

if not

message me & we will figure out a time for a phone call. I will give you one of my cell phone numbers

it may depend on the state of the windows install after the refurbish process.
I find it very odd he says it has no Ethernet adapter

windows still has to create a “usb printing support” device in order to have a port to send jobs to

Possibly, Win7 should have that as part of the normal install though, the same way that if you plug in a USB desktop printer it automatically detects the port etc..
I'm sure the PC has an ethernet port, maybe he meant the printer didn't? I haven't seen a PC without one since the old WinXP days!

Some of the refurbishers leave the windows installation in an odd state.
I blame convoluted and confusing Microsoft rules for those odd licenses forcrefurbishers

remember they did NOT allow processor I’d to be stored (so you retained your license until windows 10

Dear all!

Thank you all for all the assistance, I am overwhelmed and great full. Please bear with me as I try to answer all the related responses to my question.

I think i miss understood the ethernet question. The printer only has a usb plug and a power plug, the new desktop has the ethernet jack.
And I already bought the ethernet usb jack before but i don't remember why.
The versacamm disk i have is for.....version 4.0
I tried to download from Rolands download center, but that didnt work.

So, Im unable to upload anything from the disk, and im not sure if i am downloading the right info.

Again, thank you all for your experience and expertise!

I am going to re read some of your answers and see if I missed anything, which.......oh right, i am designing in Flexi 8.6 and using VW to print.
