Wordpress host

I am in dire need of updating a ten year old web site. I can do it myself using Wordpress. I am wondering if any of you have any experience with exceptional hosting companies. All evidence points to wpengine, but at $30.00./month seems a little pricey. I am currently using GoDaddy at around $6.00/month, and I wonder if the extra features wpengine offers would be worth it.

Wordpress does their own hosting as well, which I've heard great reviews of. We use Hostgator ourselves.
