lol you're thinking too hard bro. No one responded, more than likely because they couldn't come up with a good response. Do your thing, if you want to emulate the style of Dan, do it. Don't copy him or knock off his work. If you respect him, respect him that much. But nothing wrong with having inspiration, and he's a good guy to be inspired by.

I really think Dan's work is so clean due to him not clogging it with raster images like most do. Nice, simple and clean design always looks better i think anyway.
