Yet another illustrator question.

Dammit, make it faster!!
I know I'm frustrating a lot of you adobe users but I can't learn illy if I don't ask questions. Trust me though, I'm learning a lot on my own.
Anyway, I come to realize that bitmaps are automatically "linked" if you drag and drop. And if you "Place" a bitmap you have to uncheck "Link". Otherwise the bitmaps will not be embedded.
Question is, is there a way to always embed bitmaps? Or at least permanently make the "Linked" option unchecked upon place?

p.s. I'm sure linking images can be an asset but I, personally, never link images.

You can click on "embed image" then it will be permanently embedded. You can open the image through Illy, it won't be a link. You can copy paste and it won't be a link. If your linked image is just one of many elements, and the second two options I mentioned aren't ideal... then click on embed after placing it - or write a script so you only have to click on your script button instead of the embed button.

Why would I "open" the image if the file I'm working on is sized the way I need it to be. Opening creates a new doc.
Copy/Paste does not Embed. Wait, you mean open the image, then copy and paste to my other file. Counterintuitive!
I don't want to have to hit Embed each and every time. Also counterintuitive!

geeeze your picky. I was just giving you options since you're so offended to have to click on embed image. I was just tossing out other ways to not have to click embed.
Write your scripts and quit asking how to do stuff in Illy if ya just wanna bag on all the help people are trying to give you.

You're absolutely correct. I'm having a bad day. I really do appreciate the help. I know how frustrating it is to "teach an old dog new tricks". I've had several employees over the years who were trained with illustrator and frustrated having to learn corel. I'm a self taught user of corel. I find it better to jump in a play around and ask questions as they come about instead of watching a bunch of tutorials.

p.s. "you're" not your.:)

If you have something that already works, why are you jumping ship, or whatever it is, you're doing ?? You've said countless times illy is inferior, so why not do it your way and forget about trying to prove 96% of the world wrong ?? Then, to boot..... you're now spell checking people. Evidently you're not all that busy the last few days, so why not use your extra time clicking a few more items and hitting a few keys ??

Really, what is your goal here with all the comparisons lately ??

I sell stickers and sticker accessories.
Benefits of leaving them as linked images.
If you edit the image outside of Illustrator and save over it, it will update in Illustrator.
Your file sizes will be smaller.
You can relink the image to swap it for a different one.
You can save your work as a package that includes all fonts and links to share with others.

I believe you have to embed the image if you want to trace it, convert the colors to greyscale (etc.), warp or apply some effects.

But if you use that same image in other files it will change all of those too?
We have a clipart file where we drop in various images for use. If I place one of those in multiple documents over the years then I, or someone, inadvertently changes that clipart image then all those files are now no good?

If someone was to edit the original file and save over it, Yes.
However, if you're sharing a clipart library with several people, I wouldn't suggest anyone edit the originals, copy the clipart you are using into the same folder as the clients files, then edit if needed.

As an example, say this image was used in 30+ designs for the same client and one day he wants to change the color or add something to it. You would only need to edit the origianl to change 30+ files.
