I tried it 5 times.The first 2 times i forgot to subtract the 2nd number,the 3rd & 4th time i forgot the gift i picked.The 5th time it worked,Yippieeeee,lol.

OK, but before I do, try doing maybe a half-dozen or dozen numbers first, keeping track of the "gift" number that you wind up with.

Is there any trend you notice?

It's seems to be based on a very clever algorithm that times how long it takes you to scan and find your target number and then click the 'next' button.

Two-digit numbers subtracting both single digits always leaves.........

10 - 1 - 0 = 9
11 - 1 - 1 = 9
12 - 1 - 2 = 9
13 - 1 - 3 = 9
14 - 1 - 4 = 9
15 - 1 - 5 = 9
16 - 1 - 6 = 9
17 - 1 - 7 = 9
18 - 1 - 8 = 9
19 - 1 - 9 = 9
20 - 2 - 0 = 18
21 - 2 - 1 = 18
22 - 2 - 2 = 18
23 - 2 - 3 = 18
24 - 2 - 4 = 18
25 - 2 - 5 = 18
26 - 2 - 6 = 18
27 - 2 - 7 = 18
28 - 2 - 8 = 18
29 - 2 - 9 = 18
30 - 3 - 0 = 27
31 - 3 - 1 = 27
32 - 3 - 2 = 27

any number in the twenties results in 20-2=18
any number in the thirties results in 30-3=27
any number in the forties results in 40-4=36

ya see the pattern?

so with the same gift appearing in 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72 & 81... it's always right.

Hmmm... That leaves a 1 in 3 chance, but it's more accurate than that. I also waited different amounts of time. It does explain why it's only accurate when I actually do the math rather than simply pick a number, though.

Exactly. The answer after you do your calculation is always a multiple of 9.

Whenever you see these kinds of tricks, the grid is always designed to appear random so that one does not easily spot the repetition of the same "gift" or other answer every nine squares...

There is no chance at play at all...

The answer will always be a multiple of 9....

If you look carefully at the grid when the gifts are displayed , you will always find the same gift listed under every multiple of 9 (as Gyps listed).
