I feel you! Heavy rolls can be a real challenge. I've had good experiences with Stouse.com, they offer banner fabric in smaller quantities, including 10-20 yard rolls. You might also want to check out BannerWorld.com, they have a variety of fabric options and roll sizes.

For a brushed aluminum look, try Rowmark stock or similar vinyl. Clean the PVC surface well and consider a primer for better adhesion.
