Hi. Is anyone having issues with inks leaking from their Mutoh ValueJet or ExpertJet heads? Especially on recent installed machines (up to 4 months old) or on machines that had a recent damper replacement?

What does your nozzle check look like? Head alignments done? Uni- and bidirectional alignments done? And last but not least, print feed adjust (step adjust) is extremely important for these machines. Has this been done?

They are not greedy. Inks do age and become unstable after which could do harm to your ink system. It might be that their inks can last much longer, but for example they also can not control the way the distributor and you control your storage. Too many variables. So they most likely came up...

Any printer (including a Roland) that is properly profiled can print a neutral grey. This is not a printer issue. This is a profiling issue. Either make a profile that is as neutral as possible using CMYK or the easiest option would be a Max K profile only using black for black generation.
