I would do a painted, stud-mounted aluminum panel(s). Red letters, especially small ones, on a (presumably) red brick background, are going to be more difficult to read.

Yeah he's probably talking about a frame that gets taped to the wall. The frame has a thin metal ferrous sheet in the face side and the faceplate has magnetic sheeting on the back (or vice versa). The frame stays in place, the faces can easily be removed/relocated.

Personally, I appreciate when there's a center standoff. If the installer is by him/her self, they can easily measure and determine where on the wall that top center anchor needs to be. Install that anchor, lift and hang the sign on that, level...
Probably because they think it's "just sticking letters on the wall". Once they drill their holes and get one or more studs hung up and they wont go any further into the holes and they can't pull them out of the holes, they'll be wishing they had paid someone to install them. Just be careful how...
I personally wouldn't give them any install advice if they insist on installing it themselves.
Metal sucks trying to get studs through. If you drill the "correct" size hole, the studs will bind and sometimes you won't be able to get them in all the way....and it can be an absolute bear to get...
