Those ideas and many others will work on a piece that isn't full of patches/flaws. Unless he can do precise 'inlay' work, it's really gonna show up like a really bad job. He'd hafta have the exact same wood put back in, which I don't think the OP has when looking at not a large piece in that...

There's a lot wrong in that pic. I really get a kick how the wine looks like it's being swirled about in the glass.

^^ What are you referring to as snark self entertainment ?? I didn't see one poster say it was a bad looking sign, let alone the nature of the sign, but there are a few physical mistakes........ and hard ones to fix, especially now that the customer wants it stained. There's only so much...

Hafta agree. If you can't turn out a nice sign, keep it and do it over. Otherwise, give it to the customer and tell them you don't know what to do. _____________ If you bought that blank pre-made, you chose the wrong kinda boards for that kinda sign. The grain is going the wrong way and looks...

My first question would be..... what are all those areas with a different color running through it like at the top of the R, K & B ?? Also, the bottom of the Y, C & A ?? Is that some sorta attempt at patching ??

With that large of a gap, you'll need to use some flashing and make it large enough so you can cut the grooves out in the back. Then caulk it.

Beings this is a garage door, I imagine you are doing the outside surface, since you mentioned cold. Put on in one solid piece, carefully remove tape and slit as you see fit. From that picture, it's hard to tell if you have enough surface to fold over top & bottom of each panel.

Regardless of what you flush mount....... rain, snow, bugs, birds are gonna get behind it. What's the issue ??

A simple google and you'll see it's for interior things like curtains and other thin fabrics.
