  1. Cutting a Bigfoot Figure

    Thanks!
  2. Cutting a Bigfoot Figure

This is a foam cutting contraption I built a number of years ago. I used it to cut 3D letters and a monument sign. Now it's just sitting there in the shop but I want to dust it off and use it to cut a 10 ft tall "bigfoot". I was of thinking of cutting the front view from one vector image...
  3. Inflation

Rats, I got the job. Already have 5 sign projects in the works including 12 dimensional signs, a timber frame sign structure, and a panel truck, and it's just me and my wife. Looks like we'll be busy for awhile. I shouldn't complain; There was a time when I was hungry for work, but I also run an...
  4. Inflation

I emailed the client a quote, considerably higher than the one in 2017. I did explain that the new signs would be machined entirely on the CNC, and not sandblasted as before. I mentioned that my customers are very happy with the CNC textured backgrounds we do. Have not heard back. I'm already as...
  5. Inflation

I checked the cost of hdu back then and the price has increased by 42%
  6. Inflation

Cut them to length, rip the rounded edges off on a tablesaw with a planer blade, carefully set to 90 degrees, using featherboards for accuracy, flip them so the grain alternates, laminate with west system epoxy. Oh yeah I remember those days. I have two boards left...clear all-heart vertical...
  7. Inflation

I'm sure they do better in some climates, and I love the look of re3al wood but, here in Florida, from my experience, HDU does better than redwood and west coast cedar, especially the cedar. I still have a good amount of nice clear, all-heart, vertical grain redwood in my shop. Willing to sell...
  8. Inflation

Thanks. HDU. Sandblasted. But I quit sandblasting a few years ago, sold all my equipment. We only CNC now.
  9. Inflation

We did a dimensional job for a golf course back in 2017. We made the two entrance signs and two or three informational and directional signs. But there were two signs we quoted which the customer told us he wanted to wait on. The customer just called, wants them now, and says the quote for those...
  10. Old ShopBot...anyone still running one?

No, it stopped immediately. Now it moves between 2 and up to 7 inches or so before stopping; long enough to keep damaging whatever might going wrong at the time. I run most of my toolpaths no more than 100 ipm. Most of them slower. I've never had a problem with skipping steps while stopping it...
  11. Old ShopBot...anyone still running one?

I have an old PRT/PRS 4x8 ShopBot table which I upgraded to the new controller board. With the old board, whether hitting the spacebar, clicking the stop button, or a remote stop button, the machine would stop immediately. A little alert/notification prompt would come up giving you the option of...
  12. "How would you do them?"

Ha! I called back, left a message with the city clerk, told them that 2 of the special-mixed paint colors were on file with Sherwin Williams, but that it was 19 years ago when they were built. Actually I think I mixed some of the colors here at the shop so they have no numbers. Anyway, she...
  13. "How would you do them?"

I built these signs, 4 of them, 19 years ago and they need a fresh coat of paint. I gave the city a quote on restoring them about 2 months ago and finally got a call a few minutes ago. The city clerk asked me "we just want to know how you would do them". Thinking they just wanted to know what...
  14. Stick-on Letters

Thank you, that will help me sleep better tonight. But I'm using the Gemini threaded studs on the other side tomorrow.
  15. Stick-on Letters

Ok, that makes sense. What about my stupid mistake on the rivets. I could just about cry. They said "aluminum" on the box, but I checked one of the stems with a magnet and they're steel. I used a double row of adhesive on all the letters except the "I's" and the smaller "Inc" at the bottom. So...
  16. Stick-on Letters

Ok, I see the warning about steel rivets. Too late. I do have a bunch of the threaded studs left over from Gemini letter jobs. I'll do the other side with those. Dang.
  17. Stick-on Letters

Ok, I did it with some Lexel. I figured GG would do fine but, the thought of that stuff expanding out from the sides was gripping my heart with fear.
  18. Stick-on Letters

No, not them kind of stick on letters. I drilled holes in the main panel and the backs of these HDU letters with a 1/8'' bit on the CNC, then cut the studs out of some 1/4'' pop rivets, They were a very snug fit so the letters are aligned perfectly. I sprayed Sherwyn Williams Industrial acrylic...
  19. Backlit, routed ACM

Would anyone be willing to make these faces for us? I don't have a stud welding setup. Just a mig welder. I'll get you the specs if anyone wants the job.
  20. Brick Sign estimate

A rep from this city requested an estimate for build another sign "just like this one". I just received an estimate for building the flowerbed wall and the main sign structure. They told me $9100, just for labor, to pour the footer and lay the brick. After going back and forth a couple times...
