  1. Awning letter painting

Illuminated Image and Z3 Graphics sell wholesale awnings
  2. JRS Extrusion

They sent an email out saying they were closed permanently. Johnson Plastics has a lot of similar extrusions.
  3. Does anyone understand Orafol's numbering system?

Ask your sales rep for an information booklet from Orafol. All manufacturers have them. They typically show in a grid format all the features, benefits, specs, etc on all the different available films. As well as use cases, like “wall graphics”, “floor graphics”, etc. 3551 or 3651 is...
  4. New Omega 8.0

I am surprised a new version of Omega is being released. I thought Gerber was ending support for their products in a few years? Omega leaves a lot to be desired, but it is not bad for a home-grown software solution from an equipment manufacturer. It served us pretty well until about 12 years...
  5. Extend lease or buy new building?

We have a separate partnership (my dad and I) that owns the building. I thought maybe there was a small tax advantage in setting it up that way, but I'm not sure. It seems like the best advantage is having more flexibility. My dad has since retired, and he continues to get half of rental...
  6. Extend lease or buy new building?

The payoff for buying your own building is long-term. You likely will not see any benefit for 10+ years, but you are putting your money towards something that has value. Definitely talk to your CPA and crunch some numbers. We bought our building 20 years ago, and it is paying off nicely now...
  7. High Temperature Paint sign

They want colors for the logo. Wouldn't a black sheet still be painted?
  8. High Temperature Paint sign

Does anyone have experience making a sign to withstand high temps? I have a customer looking for one that will be exposed up to 600F. I was thinking solid aluminum sign with Sherwin Williams high temp paint.
  9. Adobe / Pantone?

Seems like the relevancy of Pantone has dwindled over the years. Most logos we get anymore do not have Pantone numbers. Even some brand guides will spec RGB or Hex values.
  10. Mimaki UV vs HP Latex

We put a cast laminate on all prints. We have had prints out for several years and have not noticed any fading or issues.
  11. Backlit SEG

    WS Display, Orbus
  12. Steel tape

    Johnson Plastics
  13. Upselling quotes (good/better/best)

You seem interested in selling nicer type signs, but it sounds like you may not have the reputation yet for it. I was there about 10 years ago when I really wanted to sell high-end monument signs, lighted signs, etc, but I did not have a strong reputation for doing so. If you don't have these...
  14. Curved Carved HDU

I don't know how much you have to bend it, but bending HDU is very risky. I would be concerned it would snap. I think you need to use a wood substrate and do kerf cuts like Z suggested.
  15. Electronic contract signing

Shopvox has a way of sending quotes out to be approved online, but it is pretty hokey IMO. I signed up for a trial with DocuSign and used it on a project already. It is pretty simple to use. I will definitely be using it for larger and more complex jobs. Stacy - ShopTracker is very...
  16. Electronic contract signing

Hey all, I'm looking to see if anyone has experience with having their customers sign documents / contracts electronically. We currently use Shopvox for sending quotes. This works OK - email customer a quote, they sign & scan it back to me, along with a deposit (if required). Or I can ask for...
  17. Trying to put Oce Arizona 480GT into storage without spending $3,000 for a tech...

+1 The old printer is costing you time and money….you need to get aggressive about selling it.
  18. Window Perf Rolling Itself Off

We are re-doing a van right now with this exact issue. We are putting new graphics on, cutting back the perf about 1/4” and using seal tape all around. I am convinced that if you don’t use seal tape on window perf, you are risking failure.
  19. Snap Frame For School Bus??

+1 to this Don’t use snap frames, as suggested above. They are made for interior and can blow open outside, especially on a moving vehicle.
  20. Has anyone used Kalisign?

Are you referring to the company in France? That would be very risky to order signs from overseas. If you know their prices are really cheap, then you must have experience purchasing channel letters, so why are you asking for recommendations?
