  1. HDU Sign Failure: Any reason the installation would be the reason for the failure?

I have no idea how the angle bracket was attached to the sign. I didn't have any involvement in that part. I installed the 4x4's and the brackets to mount that to the brick posts. It was supposed to use aluminum cross beams, but they didn't fit over the sign so I had to improvise at the last...
  2. HDU Sign Failure: Any reason the installation would be the reason for the failure?

The supplier did the angle bracket. It was glued and screwed. Not how I would have done it but they've been around 20+ years so I took their word it would hold up. I would have mounted it completely differently. I would have used C-Channel to wrap around the cross beam which would have also...
  3. HDU Sign Failure: Any reason the installation would be the reason for the failure?

Long story short, I ordered a sign from a wholesaler. I wasn't supposed to install it, but ended up having to. The supplied brackets didn't fit so I had to rig some 4x4's as cross beams. The angle bracket came glued and screwed to the sign. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the way the...
  4. Paint coming off the wall in big chunks

Based on the location, I'd say they painted over a wall that wasn't completely cleaned after being sanded. If vinyl wasn't being applied over it, it would have never caused a problem. If you put some painters tape on that section of the wall, there's a good chance the paint would have come up too.
  5. Equipment Grants?

PPP and EIDL were 100% not allowed to be used for equipment purchases.

  7. Rant Customer "artwork"

I tell people pretty much all the time they need to email their copy over. No less than once a week I get a photo of a hand written document. Often the same document I told them they had to go home, type up and email it to me.
  8. Need Help Reproduction Glass/Acrylic panel - how to reproduce

Take a piece of acrylic or glass and spray paint it. Does it block out the light enough? If it does, I'd do the following: Laser cut the acrylic. Direct print the orange text. Spray paint the panel with a number of coats. Then laser engrave the text. Can't swear it will work, but it should.
  9. Client refusing payment

My story of the day. School district placed an annual order in May for a bit over $1000. It's broken up into 2 parts. 1 = $1000, new items. 2 = $100ish for updates of their existing items. $1000 worth of merchandise is delivered on June 1st, but ready on May 22, their scheduled pickup date...
  10. Bulletin Oil Paints in Gallons

For latex, try DTM paints. They're a nice mix between latex and enamel. I've always used PPG brand, but others should work. There's also a PPG paint called "Break Through" which you can even buy at Home Depot. It dries hard like a cabinet paint and also super fast. NovaColor paints in...

  12. Math problem....

Any inspector that rejects a computer generated calculation should be challenged. To calculate this sort of thing requires a ton of brute force math (counting pixels essentially), some pretty high level math (Calculus's primary focus is on area under curves), or a combination of mid-level math...
  13. Hope this is not a dumb question...

Part of designing a logo is the releasing the file packet & rights of use. People that don't are dirt bags. That's just taking advantage of people. Now if you make a sign which happens to be attractive enough to use as a logo, that's a completely different story. If they want to use your...
  14. Polishing the edges of acrylic

Sanding is definitely the safest and most repeatable method. I gave up flame polishing after talking to an acrylic specialist. He basically repeated all the issues I had with flame polishing and told me he'd never flame polish. He had a super expensive diamond polisher but he always...
  15. What causes those nasty email returns?

Most people have their webspace hosted on shared servers. Those shared servers host lots and lots of different clients. If some of those clients start spamming email, it will result in essentially the server getting listed as a source of spam. So now your emails are treated a spam. Even if...
  16. Font ID

I ran it through my normal programs and I can't come up with an exact match. Any help would be appreciated.
  17. Buying a Dimensional Sign Business

If you're going to be a dimensional sign shop, you need to get out of the idea that you're going to throw stuff on the CNC, cut it out, and someone else is going to do the finishing. You can get a 4x8 CNC machine for $10-20k. A lot of substrate suppliers offer CNC cutting. A lot of shops make...
  18. Buying a Dimensional Sign Business

    1. When purchasing a business like this, you want the value of the assets to cover a majority of the sale price. This business is shutting its doors if you don't buy them so don't go too crazy offering a lot over asset value. 2. Be careful buying bad assets. The CNC machine, inventory, and...
  19. Was wondering...

Texas's grid issues are not EV related. They are corruption related. It's really that simple. Anyone that did even 30 minutes of research about how Texas' grid is setup would sit down and say "Well, that's pretty stupid. I'm glad my state isn't like that."
