    That looks like a magnetic sign which no one ever removed and it's become part of the door. Yeah, I wouldn't repaint it...... replace the whole frickin' door. Just make the replacement sign larger to hide all the imperfections.

    Lotsa things can cause that.. 40° is too old for the vinyl and your machine. Is it a new roll ?? Do you unravel the vinyl so the machine is only pulling light weight I??

    Just someone's version of cooper black. Whether they were painted directly on or cut outta wood, to match that will be tough, cause you'll hata bastardize the font. Yours will most likely look better. I'd put it on a board of some sarot and have them attach it.
