Currently the big problem is CorelDRAW 2019 is buggy as hell. I'm not using that version, but from what I understand, aside from the bugs and other performance issues (especially on the Mac side), Corel has stripped down some functions and features of the program. So that makes matters even...
I think one of the problems is these clowns in big city governments (or snotty rich suburb governments) are woefully out of touch. My theory is they think most sign companies are big operations with lots of employees, including lots and lots of staff to wrangle with bureaucratic red tape. It...
Obtaining installation permits seems to be more of a chore than ever. The requirements vary city by city. Some are super strict and require a whole bunch of red tape garbage submitted. Others aren't so bad. Generally smaller, less affluent towns tend to be easy on sign companies unless the...
Just to repeat what others have said, Flash-based drives are not reliable for long term storage. That especially goes for those little USB memory sticks. Those things SUCK for any kind of long term storage. You never know when they're going to get corrupted.
Last summer I got pretty peeved...
Which drawing application are you going to adopt once CorelDRAW is only available via subscription or forced yearly upgrades on a "non subscription" perpetual license?
I guess you didn't read the full sentence, missing the part about "or any other number of rival applications." Regardless of the situation with Adobe and other software vendors I think the folks at Corel (or rather Vector Capital and KKR) are going to shoot themselves in the foot and...
Unfortunately hedge fund bean counters think they know more about running any kind of business than anyone else. So the ones running Corel will probably not heed any warnings at all in how risky their new "strategy" might be. Specific knowledge of a given industry doesn't matter to them...
I think the $16.50 per month subscription price is a rip-off; it's actually billed annually at $198. I think a $99 per year price would be far more appropriate for what the user is getting in that suite. Their "upgrade protection" plan lets perpetual license users basically get a $99 per year...
Corel will not disable any existing perpetual license of CorelDRAW if the user doesn't join the program to pay for forced upgrades every year. Corel has been fairly clear and up front about that. If you don't want to buy any upgrades you can keep on using the existing copy of CorelDRAW you own...
Shortly after Amiable Technologies merged with Scanvec (to become Scanvec-Amiable and later SAi) they converted most (but not all) the proprietary .SCF font package files to True Type Fonts. We still have a couple of the Flexi Fonts 2000 (as in year 2000) CD-ROM discs in our shop. A few weights...
I'm really stumped at trying to ID the typeface used for the building letters in the attached image. I doubt it's a commercial typeface, but then I can't find it at any of the usual freebie sites like DaFont. Thanks in advance for any help.
NO, it's not a "mental thing" at all. Lots of brand artwork and other assets are created using Adobe's applications. The rival applications often SUCK at opening those files. If the artwork is more and more complicated and/or uses unique effects (such as Illustrator art brush or pattern brush...
First of all, that "302" looks pretty awful. Were the numerals constructed out of the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man's fingers? If re-creating it in vector form is necessary it looks like a pretty easy job. For a quick and dirty (and not faithful re-creation) of the numerals you could set the "302"...
If it's just the logo I need I'll usually go hunting through various PDFs posted online at different websites until I find a proper vector-based element of the logo. The Zeiss logo probably wouldn't be hard to find at all as a vector element inside a PDF.
As for fonts that look ballpark...
CorelDRAW X8 will work under Windows 10. I run it on my personal notebook at home using Win 10 Pro. On my desktop computer at work I have CorelDRAW 2018 and CDR X8 installed (again runing Win 10 Pro).
I don't mind at all Corel starting up a subscription based setup for people who don't want to...
I've seen the syndrome go both ways. I've seen people who've taken design classes or even earned art degrees who don't have any real talent. And I've seen people with no formal training produce really good work. Likewise there's plenty of designers who did get formal training or degrees who are...
