  1. Are you kidding me!??!??! LOL

Got a customer inquiry through our website today that left me a little bewildered - yes this is 100% real. So naturally, I thought I would share it with you all in hopes it will bring a chuckle to your day....enjoy! (I covered up the real names and locations with XXXXX) You have received a...
  2. Cheetah wrap & Fellers - Update

Yeah, I'm sure its different from everyone. My buddy has a shop in Cleveland and he loves Grimco, hates Fellers...so I guess the lesson is to never forget good people can do wonders for your business...
  3. Cheetah wrap & Fellers - Update

Fair question, but many reasons actually; 1. When I started my company in 2008 Fellers was the ONLY company to send out a sales rep to meet with me. At the time I had reached out to Grimco, Tubelite and 1-2 more, Fellers was the only one to give me the time of day. I appreciate them for...
  4. Cheetah wrap & Fellers - Update

No, unfortunately Fellers will send directly to end users. You don't have to be a wrap shop, sign shop or print shop. You can open an account using a personal name or even Bobs Pizza Shack...doesn't matter. I found that out about 2 years ago, shocked me of course because they didn't see...
  5. Legal Mess. Who's to blame?

Not an attorney, but I would like to "think" liability is on the shoulders of the big national sign company since they are the ones that were likely hired directly by the franchise. The local sign company was hired as a sub-contractor of the larger sign company to do the work, but I would bet...
  6. Tired of all these laminates shrinking down!!! Need help with a laminanate please...

That doesn't sound right unless you're talking about a half roll or 30". Back when 1360 was still around I think we were paying around $350/roll for 54/150... That said, I have high praise for Fellers Lamex brand cast material. I think we're paying about $325/roll and have had no issues...
  7. Pricing Software

Downloaded SignTracker about a week ago and still messing around figuring out formulas, etc. I need to sit down to one of their webinars to get a better understanding of how it all works together, but alas, need to make signs and money to pay the bills... Still, it looks promising, and my main...
  8. How do you pay your installers?

My employees are paid hourly. That said, I do offer bonuses like "free lunch" once in a while, as well as some extra $$ in their paycheck if we slam out a big rush job or something unique. People appreciate when you take notice when you work extra hard and therefore I feel this way keeps them...
  9. Review Mutoh ValueJet 1628X or your mutoh experience in general

Have had a Mutoh 1204, 1304, 1604, now currently have upgraded to a 1624 and 1624x at our shop. Very reliable machines, DX5 heads are easy to maintain and print great. Cant comment on the 1628x from direct experience, but should be a safe bet.
  10. Looking for a beginner printer/cutter

Solvent printers become problematic when they aren't run consistently. The heads tend to dry up, drain lines clog, etc. Latex would be the better choice based on your reply - or possibly a thermal print and cut machine like a Summa or older Gerber Edge system.
  11. Software Help Shop management software

Yes, we are interested for this at our shop too. I've actually had an old copy of GraphixCalc pro on my machine for 5+ years that I still use. Looks like GraphixCalc is having a 1/2 price Black Friday sale this Friday, so I am tempted....
  12. First Time Printer Mutoh 1204

Kind of a toss up IMHO. You're $700.00 in, and need approx $3,000.00 in parts to get it up and running, plus time and effort. Not to mention you'll need some kind of RIP... As long as you can get it up and running, its probably OK but probably could have found one in decent shape for about...
  13. FS: New in the box Mutoh ValueCut 1300 52" cutter with stand...

We purchased this cutter as an add-on upgrade to a 1624x we bought at the start of the year, thinking we would use as a backup and to do overflow work. Due to space limitations and being too busy this year, we never installed it and is still in the original box and crate and now we have decided...
  14. First Time Printer Mutoh 1204

Too many things to list but a short list; 1. Does it print? (I guess if you don't have a chance to see it print before you get it - it will be what it will be) 2. What does the test print look like? (Missing/deflected nozzles?) 3. Does ink drain out the drain tubes when you do a cleaning? (Is...
  15. Why no love for 3M vinyl?

In regards to their cut vinyl, 3M has a much more limited color palette than Oracal or Avery. That said, certain customers require 3M or have colors that only 3M has (Have one that has to have that "bottle green" and nobody else makes anything exactly that shade) and thus, we do use it from...
  16. New Owner of Signs101.com

Big news, will be interesting to see how things progress. I wish you both the best and have high hopes S101 will move onward and upward!
  17. Suggestions for a Laminator

We've had our USTECH laminator for 4+ years now (Wow, how time flies) and can't say enough good things about it. With most of them costing less than $3,000 I really doubt there is anything that can compare with it. Ours is an older AK-600 model and we've run miles of all kinds of laminate...
  18. Double sided banners on 360 - large run

Not to go off topic, but we just did 165 2x4 double sided banners between our two Mutoh 1624's last week on 13oz double side blockout. Heavy coverage, so we were allowing them to dry completely overnight before printing the other side. Did a similar job last year and learned quite a bit and...
