Lots of ways to build a successful business - I've chosen to focus on hiring the best of the best in the industry and put my trust in them (and it's worked out so far).
I can appreciate somebody being in the trenches, but my team appreciates being paid more than any of our competitors by a...
I know contractors that can do everything and I've used them in the past when we've run into similar issues, but we are getting big enough that it's less of an issue.
Do you think the CEO of Delta knows how to fly a commercial airplane?
I've not learned these things intentionally so I couldn't...
I never had any seed money, just my own pockets!
I know the guys at BSS well and appreciate the work they're putting in to advance our industry.
I haven't been on their podcast, but I enjoy their episodes. If you listen to the one with Paul Gardner/Sign Enterprise, he's somebody who has built...
I have been pretty clear about who I'm sharing this message for - the entrepreneur who wants to know if they can build a self-sustaining sign business... And there's no reason that couldn't be any of you.
It's not the money, it's the freedom... Money is a byproduct of success, not the motivator.
I'm still working, I've just started a new venture where I'm focusing most of my time now (and without the stress of cash flow, so I can build it without the pressure).
I don't know how to do anything they do, so I may be vested, but I can't do that.
I've intentionally not learned to do those things so I couldn't step in to save the day when needed...I had no choice but to figure out how to build a business that could run itself.
I can't do design (but I have...
I enjoy the challenge of building businesses vs building signs, but I've come to love the sign industry in the process.
I also enjoy knowing I've built something that is able to give back to my community and has created opportunities in the lives of the people on my team.
That 28 year old GM I...
I'm going to circle back here and offer a bit more clarity on what I think is actually important in all of this.
All of us are making money. Some of you are making more money than me I'm sure (and that's awesome).
It's not the money I think we should be celebrating.
I think we should be...
I don't need an applause, just showing they're real since you seem to think they're made up.
Sales orders are not revenue. A sales order does not become revenue until the job has been finished and invoiced.
It's even the way it is setup in ShopVOX (which is also why I showed the...
Since math and business aren't some of your strong suits, here's a screenshot directly from our ShopVOX dashboard that shows our Q1 numbers (and shows how new sales can be higher than invoices... That's a good thing, it means we are growing our pipeline and have bigger months on the horizon).
I said we did $300k in March and we averaged $250k in Q1.
$250k * 3 = $750k in Q1
The $600k is a sales order... That job has not been invoiced (and will not be invoiced until May).
You guys don't understand the difference between sales (new orders) and revenue (completed jobs that were...
No, $250k/month... Your question was what I averaged a month, not a quarter.
If I did $300k in March alone, how could I possibly have done $250k total in 3 months?
I see math isn't your thing.
Did you even read what you just sent before you linked in?
At this point, I'm dipping out.
As I said earlier - me sharing this win wasn't for you guys, it's for the future sign entrepreneurs who are wondering if they can build a self-sustaining business in this industry (just as I was 5...
50% of $600k was one job.
I've been very specific about our numbers, I have no reason to hide them.
$300k in March was a record month, but we averaged $250k in the first 3 months of the year @ 22% net profit, but that average is constantly growing (i.e. when we deliver that $300k job in May...
Why would we need more than 10k sq ft? We aren't installing things in our shop, we're installing them in the field, lol.
Like I said, $300k of that $600k we sold last month is for a single job that will be installed in 4 days in May (11 Watchfire displays).
You don't need 10k sq ft to install...
To you guys that are trolling - is the reason this upsets you because you've dedicated 20+ years to the sign industry and you don't like to see that somebody who knew nothing about the industry 6 years ago, built something larger than you have in an industry you've devoted your entire career to...
I think perhaps you don't understand what these terms mean...I never said $300k in profit.
$300k revenue = jobs that were delivered and invoiced in March (and mostly sold in previous months)
$600k sales = jobs that will be delivered in the coming months ($300k of that is a Watchfire job we...
Why would we need more than 10,000 sq ft?
We don't do metal fabrication/electrical work in-house (we install but wholesale fab out)... We actually don't even fully utilize all 10,000 sq ft, we have plenty of room for growth.
