  1. Banner Jet Walk-Thru + UV Ink Conversion!

Looking good! :thumb: Please keep us posted on your progress.
  2. Do you care if your suppliers become your competitors?

I for one don't like it. If a vendor wants to be my supplier they can't be my competition, as in sell the same products and services I offer. There is a clear conflict of interests there and I don't know how anybody would tolerate it. I know companies like Fellers tread close by selling to...
  3. VJ1604 banding issue

Sorry I didn't see this thread till this morning. Yes, everything you described pointed towards a clogged drain lines. I can't stress enough that with these ValueJet printers keeping the drain lines clean and clear and making sure there is a good seal around the head and cap is the key to a...
  4. How much time do you estimate for employee to hem & grommet 15 banners?

Yeah, in the end I think I could have knocked them out in about 2 hours without too much stress. I "was" going to say something to him, but I think after hearing everyone's opinion I'll decide to gently prod him along next time, but won't be a d*ck about it. :Big Laugh
  5. How much time do you estimate for employee to hem & grommet 15 banners?

OK, so it took him 3.5 hrs - grommet press - which I thought seemed excessive, but apparently not if you all feel 3-4 hours is the norm. So maybe I'm expecting too much and the problem is me? Lol, thanks guys.
  6. How much time do you estimate for employee to hem & grommet 15 banners?

OK, so new guy does great work but he seems (to me) very slow. I gave him a roll of 15 banners, 3' x 3' that needed cut down/trimmed from a 38" roll so he's only trimming top and bottom, and then 4 sided tape hem and grommets placed in each of 4 corners, then roll up and tape each one when...
  7. Big Squeegee - VS - Cold Laminating Machine for Overlaminate?

I was in a similar situation when I got started and didn't have the money to buy a laminator immediately after purchasing my printer. For smaller jobs I had a 32" BS and I also invested in a 54" BS for larger stuff. The 32" was/is very easy to handle and makes quick work of small stuff...
  8. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised someone else isn't getting back to you from Oracal. I had a problem recently with a roll of their 3751 wrap vinyl and it was apparent there was an issue with the roll because colors wouldn't lay down consistently, blotchy streaks, etc. I did get credit for the...
  9. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

I call B.S., and if not they need to put a disclaimer on all their regular vinyls as well if lamination is a requirement. I've never laminated any non-printed vinyl including Oracal 5600 which I haven't ever had any issues with. In fact, I have a fleet of plumbing vans rolling around with...
  10. Lamination material question

Just a few things I will touch on... There are a wide variety of prices of laminates because each is used/rated/spec'd for certain applications. Also, thicker material has nothing to do with quality or durability - strangely enough, most often it's the other way around. (Put some cheap...
  11. Hello From Ohio

    Welcome from Columbus!
  12. Updated: Two Wasatch RIPs, two GS6000, one won't print.

Had some similar weird communication issues years ago, maybe this will give you some ideas; http://www.signs101.com/forums/showthread.php?55516-Losing-connection-between-PC-amp-Valuejet Double check that your cables are good and I would triple check on the IP addresses. I would suggest doing...
  13. Updated: Two Wasatch RIPs, two GS6000, one won't print.

Are both copies of Wasatch different builds/serial #'s, and are the computers on the same network? *BTW - Why are you running 2 printers from 2 different copies of Wasatch? (Wasatch handles up to 4 devices with only 1 copy - 1 que for each device.)
  14. Projecting Costs

I have no idea what your concept is, but being an entrepreneur is all about taking risks. If you have a unique idea that you are afraid someone will copy, I would first spend time getting a patent or trademark to try and protect it if possible. Afterwards, it would be a matter of finding a...
  15. Has anyone had this problem with their Summa cutter? (or it's native software)

Yup, and also check that there is no lint/fuzz/smudge/debris on the bottom of the eye.
  16. Cannot find 36" Adhesive back vinyl?

It's harder to find, but it's out there. I know Fellers stocks 36" rolls of IJ-180 and matching laminates, but as for other materials it probably will be hit and miss. Remember, that many suppliers can cut rolls down for you as well.
  17. 3M IJ 40C w/ 8508 OverLam

Absolutely, and I apologize if I didn't make that clear. We always use a cast laminate with IJ-40 for long term projects. If you use a standard calendared laminate it will shrink faster than the IJ40 and will cause lifting on the edges.
  18. for you to enjoy,,

Played trombone for over 8 years and was 1st chair in our HS jazz ensemble. That kid on the 'bone is good! Yeah, sax player is pretty decent too. :Big Laugh
  19. 3M IJ 40C w/ 8508 OverLam

As with anything, your mileage may vary. If you are trying to give your customer a warranty, I won't do 5 years on anything, even on 3M 180 - just too many variables involved on how they will be used, where they are stored, etc. We warranty materials like IJ-40 and 180 for a year and I tell my...
  20. 3M IJ 40C w/ 8508 OverLam

Yes, for instance, before we even had our first printer I had Merritt print about 10 pair of 3' x 14' prints using IJ-40 and a cast laminate. (I had initially wanted to use IJ-180, but Mike at Merritt told me because these were flat panels he would opt for the IJ-40 because he thought the IJ-180...
