I have personally put a Mutoh DX4 in a Mimaki JV-3 without issue.

Run it until the cartridge is empty. The printer will pause, you can swap the cartridge and then it will resume.

Sounds like defective material. If you scroll the media foward using the machine (without printing, simply advancing), if it wrinkles, it's defective.

Check the cartridge level for that line, make sure you have plenty of ink. If the level is fine then check for leaks around the manifold (where the damper plugs into the head), damper itself (these don't fail often), the o-rings where the ink line screws into the damper. Somewhere you will...
