  1. Does doing it right matter?

You find out about that stuff real quick on a CNC. Fortunately for me I design 99.9% of everything in here, so I don't have to fight that kind of stuff. I just have my own set of things that drive me absolutely bananas!
  2. Got to thinking................................

I was a high school math teacher. So getting into CNC, knowledge of coordinates was right up my alley. HUGE learning curve, we've learned alot along the way. Very grateful to be where I am today, this month marks my 10 year anniversary getting away from teaching and being in signs.
  3. Colex CNC

If it's a router with a typical collet, you may not be able to reverse. You may not want to because spinning that thing in reverse may cause the collet to thread itself right off, much the same reason a chop saw blade's bolt is reverse thread. How old is your bit? Do you sharpen or just trash...
  4. Lawn Care logo help

Do they plant/take care of trees? If they only mow, which is the case with many lawn care places around here, you might consider taking the tree off.
  5. Anapurna M Series.....................

Electrical + "sporadically" = loose or worn wire, at least in my mind. Are there any wear spots in any wiring in the cable chain? If not a loose wire, maybe you've got worn wires. If you have a worn wire look everywhere there is movement with wires.
  6. Anapurna M Series.....................

Any wires worked themselves loose and touching metal components? I've had that happen to me a few times on a CNC.
  7. Suggestions New Shop Equipment

If you are new to CNC I advise against any machine where you can't pick up the phone and call someone for help. I like EZ-Router. I do all wood routing, but they will be able to steer you in the right direction for your materials. They have a "green machine" which is supposed to be entry...
  8. Weird install

Stretch a string on it point to point, maybe it is straight and you're just seeing an optical illusion???
  9. Need Help Code Violation: Can't park my commercial vehicle at my own house?!

Yes I absolutely agree, a soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Also, really, really nice work.
  10. Question Fact or Myth? Printers don't make money unless you run them a lot.

Kudos to you for wanting to start your own shop. I started mine about 12 years ago while I was still a teacher. 2 yrs later I had to choose one or the other. I chose my own shop. At the beginning you will do everything. But I would advise you, especially since you are a family man, make...
  11. Need Help Very slow cutting curves

Are you confident it's the USB on the cutter? I assume you went through all the troubleshooting steps to rule out the cable and the USB on the computer? Does this computer have a new antivirus? If it absolutely is the USB on the cutter can that be replaced, rather than switch to the serial...
  12. looking for a router

As a CNC guy myself, I will tell you, there are many, many, many options out there. You must ask yourself what all substrates you want to use it for. Application will determine machine. EZ-Router is my preference, US made out of Texas. They have great hobby level machines that I can attest...
  13. Question Buy used Equipment ?

Be careful who you have handle large machines...I've had a few brand new ones show up damaged, and have heard really bad stories from others. Either go get it yourself or have a private contractor do it where your machine is the only one on his rig. I've done that before too.
  14. A Little Much I think...

Thing is, Illustrator is a product, NOT a business. I want to buy the product outright. If Adobe wants a continuous revenue stream, they need to make new products, not charging indefinitely for the same product. I can imagine that meeting a few years ago. If I was in the same boat, I would...
  15. Wow.. Is it as annoying to you guys as it is me?

Yes I agree...we are the business owners so we can afford the high prices, the monthly payments, the subscription costs. As a business owner, I am always looking to cheat the system. When we were looking for a wire brush machine the cheapest I found was 20,000 and the most expensive was...
  16. Wow.. Is it as annoying to you guys as it is me?

McDonald's and Applebees on the same plane...lol...sounds about right! I avoid them both.
  17. A Little Much I think...

I HATE subscription stuff. "Here, pay me money forever with nothing to show for it." What's next, toothpaste subscriptions?
  18. Discussion Perks to Owning Your Own Shop

I hear you on that too! I have a dr. appointment here in about an hour and a half!
  19. Discussion Perks to Owning Your Own Shop

I agree on putting the negatives in there. I should have put that in the original post. I hear you on the responsibility part: it is always there and will never go away. It can be a heavy load at times. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but business ownership is not all roses and pansies and...
