  1. Mimaki JV-2 Spot Color

no. the silver cart is not installed. it sits on a shelf outside the printer with an individual line going to it. you want to be able to shake and observe the cart and pull the line from the back of the cart and sit that line in a cup of solvent to blast the line clean. i can take pics of my...
  2. Raising an Epson 3000 from the dead

i had to buy a mac centronics card way back when i wanted to use my fj50 with my old mac. still have it. don't use it. back in the day it cost $450! thank you mac for making life so much easier.

  4. Roland VS 6400. 4 Color vs 6 Color Setup?

gamut is the same. speed is way faster. you will use less ink so square foot cost will be lower (less ink because achieving tones with darker colors allows for lighter dither). i run dual cmyk and use white and silver ink running from my black channel whenever i need it from an auxiliary...
  5. JV3-130 ink fill up doesn't work for black/magenta lines

no problem. you'll be a jv3 expert in no time.
  6. JV3-130 ink fill up doesn't work for black/magenta lines

most likely a bad pump or bad seal at the cap. the easiest thing to try first is a pump tube swap. take off the panel in the back where you access the pumps. first, before do the swap set a syringe at the end of the drain line (later on run your drain lines outside the hull, not through the...
  7. Flamed edge or polished on Acrylic

it kinda goes without saying but never use extruded acrylic for this. cast only.
  8. Looking for a Flatbed or Hybrid UV - Quality over Speed

hell, i'd take a $10k shopbot (you can get some loaded used ones on the shopbot forum). but his piece was done with my jv3 running proprietary clear varnish to resist acid. 30 gallons of acid, 5 gallons of sodium hydroxide, 8 gallons of hydrogen peroxide, and about 3 gallons of MEK. ...i'm...
  9. Looking for a Flatbed or Hybrid UV - Quality over Speed

being short is killing me right now. i'm working on this 6x10 etched aluminum piece for sysco foods. makes me kind of rethink the 7'x24' flatbed printer i'm building. but it's kind of too late at this point. http://www.flickr.com/photos/alldredge/sets/72157628954324483/show/
  10. Looking for a Flatbed or Hybrid UV - Quality over Speed

i'm 5'5" and remember peering over the machine's bed just to see the output.
  11. Looking for a Flatbed or Hybrid UV - Quality over Speed

at the sgia, the agfa probably had the best/sharpest white. i like the machine except for how high it was. the substrate is almost chest high for a short guy like me. CET looked really easy to use and maintain. the CET staff are the best thing about the printer.
  12. Acrylic and Cardstock material will not lay flat. Need help!

if it's curving on the image side, the image has shrunk and is pulling that side to a curve. the only thing i would try is to put them in a heat press, low heat and then with they are coming out hot, sandwich them between two pieces of malemine board to fast cool them.
  13. buying a new flatbed

well, i know that there are uv curing units with nitrogen blankets that are released inside them. i was doing a giant project for american ultraviolet about ten years ago, and they mentioned the nitrogen was to push the oxygen off the surface for heat senstive materials, where lower power was...
  14. buying a new flatbed

i bet that nitrogen story is a lie. what the nitrogen is doing is canceling out oxygen inhibition in the cure cycle. uv curables do not like oxygen. you can take a standard uv glue. put a black light over it. no cure. now let some dry ice pour it's vapors over the uv curable glue and bam...
  15. Roland LEJ-640 VersaUV LEJ Hybrid UV-LED Flatbed Inkjet Printer

i can get the pics. it's four 5x4 (all long end to long end i can feed a 5x10). made of melamine (1/2") on top of 3/4" plywood. ugly wood table legs with risers. and "kiddy-scape" blowers. one blower is enough for a 5x10 table. if you are going really heavy you could do one blower per...
  16. Roland LEJ-640 VersaUV LEJ Hybrid UV-LED Flatbed Inkjet Printer

build an air table. my material float into the machine. it's loud but works well.
  17. Roland LEJ-640 VersaUV LEJ Hybrid UV-LED Flatbed Inkjet Printer

little tip from someone that's been printing on flat boards with pinch rollers for 10 years (much to my dismay). slightly flexible sheets (coro, gatorfoam, etc, ) will run better with less pressure if you slightly tilt the back table into the machine and the front table slightly uphill...

i think this is the one that covers several manufacturers...
  19. new rastek tf1000 having problems.... any help would be great

there was a report that a rastek tradeshow salesman steered a friend of his away from rastek machines, telling him "i wouldn't sell one to my worst enemy". i don't know if i've ever heard of a satisfied rastek owner. if possible, i'd return it for whatever loss and get your business something...
  20. XTR-1313 Flatbed UV Looking at buying one, need some opinions

no trust me. inwear is a manufacturer. there is a detailed description by flaar about what each large chinese company does or doesn't do as far as their business models. there is also a lot of parting with manufacturing in china (very smart). one company makes rails, one company makes other...
