Thank you dfeicke. That's the kind of info I needed. I'll stick to the tried and true mdo.
According to my supplier, they can offer 3mil alupanel or 1/2" olympic board (mdo) for roughly the same price.
I only have a small sample which is 1/4" thick.
I sell a quite a bit of 3x6 and 4x8 mdo signs to customers who install on 4x4 and 6x6 posts with no bracing. The sign itself is the structural part. They need something stable and strong. I wonder if 1/2" scooter board would work for this...
Solvent media will not work. You need a media that is coated, suitable for aqueous printers. Check out Lexjet, Sihl, and Magic Inkjet for coated media.
I received an example in the mail and it seems it may be great fit for some uses. Has anyone used this for long term outdoors? How has it held up? Vinyl seems to stick very well to it.
Yep! Still using pigment inks. I have a hp z2100 which I use for indoor printing and short term oudoor stuff. I was thinking of purchasing a solvent or eco-solvent printer, but I have a wholesaler that is good, reliable and on time...so what's the point!

HP used to call there pigmented inks UV inks. Athough these inks are water-based, they will hold up outside with proper lamination. Media for the 5500 is coated to accept the inks, which makes the media a lot more expensive compared to the non-coated media that is available for the eco-solvent...

Thanks Dan for this bit of info.
I've have always used latex semi-gloss and never had any issues with vinyl not adhearing. Last year I coated out a 4x8 mdo sign with Ben Moore latex gloss and vinyl would not stick at all. The BM paint had a greasy finish. I called the BM rep and he told me the...
