  2. printing media and vinyl costs

I've gotten sample rolls from Arlon before, they have always been 5yard x 54" rolls, generous, but not something you could print a wrap job on.
  3. Hand routing sign shapes

We use 0.25" thick MDF, I wouldn't recommend anything much thinner as there is a space between the bearing and the cutting edge of the bit, we've used 0.125" thick material in the past and it messed up 75% of the time.
  4. Grimco Suck again - 4mm corrugate plastic 24x18 BAD!!!!

Yeah, after a month how do they know you didn't drop the box or damage them yourself? it would have taken less than a minute to open the box when you got them and look, serously

  7. Verscamm media tracking off to left

our old vp-300 did the same thing, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact there are only 2 pinch rollers. I got much better results when I used the white media flanges to load the rolls. Have you checked to see if the printer is level? are the 2 bars that hold the media level?
  8. Anyone ever change their own print head?

I'm sure you could handle it, but you already said you are taking on dual roles at the shop right now, can you afford to possibly spend 2-3 days doing nothing else but attempting to change the head, realign etc..? I know it seems like a huge expense to have a tech come out and change it, but...
  9. What is best tool to cut multiple sheets of 1/16 " polycarbonate sheets?

Well yes anything is heavy if you stack enough of them together. As for your question, a sheer is going to be the quickest method, if you don't have a 4 foot sheer, a sheet metal shop should be able to help you. I figure you would have 120 pcs in about an hour with this method. But even with a...
  10. What is best tool to cut multiple sheets of 1/16 " polycarbonate sheets?

1/16" polycarb is easy to cut on either a sheer, or with a ruler and a knife, 1-2 passes and snap it off. 1/16" sheets are heavy?!?!
  11. Installing prints on windows

we always try to use a vinyl with air-release on windows, arlon makes one with a clear adhesive, it's not expensive at all and it saves you a bunch of time. If you don't want to laminate, you can apply application tape to the graphics, which will help with the bubbles, however cost wise you...
  12. Getting my first real storefront. Any tips or tricks on setting it up?!

Very True!!! We have people call every few weeks asking if we will do something while they wait, I always tell them to bring a sleeping bag, I've got about a week worth of work to do before I can get to it. How you set up your shop will depend on what type of customers you are looking for...

  14. Done with grimco

Not to play devils advocate or anything, but judging by what you've told us, it sounds like you are more a fault than Grimco, always always always check packages when they come in to make sure everything is there and it's what you ordered, that's about as basic as it gets. as for the minimum...
  15. Looking for Feedback on the EZY TAPER

I've never used one, but I watched the video online, in the times it took them to laminate roll to roll, I could have laminated 10 times the amount, looks like a lot of setup time.
  16. Wrap material

yeah most cast material is 2 mil, the lam is 1.3-2 mil as well. I think you are going to have to find an air conditioned place to work. We don't have an install bay, but we do have a client who is a large truck mechanic, we give him a discount on his decals, and give him $50 every time we want...
  17. Dust Or Defective?

try wiping a few feet of the vinyl down with isa alcohol, if that section prints fine, and then goes back to spotty, the roll is bad.

  20. Ink Warning changed?

no that's a versaworks issue, I've had a few files do that to me recently, I sent the files to other shops in the area running versaworks and they all had the same issue, but shops running other rips printed the file fine. try pulling the file into your design program and saving as a different...
