I just got done with a slew of signs that were done on a flatbed and just used Oracal 3641 to cover them up, there holding up fine outdoors, why would you waste money on air egress vinyl?
I had something like that a couple of years ago on my JV3 and I was told by a tech to clean the encoder strip and sensor and the problem went away instantly.
If you like dull flat images printed on gloss materials that scrach off like a water based printer, go with a latex.

Ok I will try just 0.40 alum. if that don't work I will try some Max metal, I'm sure I can get 2 pieces out of all the scraps I have of that.
