  1. HP DesignJet 500C printing on vinyl for outdoor use

The HP 500c is just a larger version of a desktop inkjet printer. If you print something with it and hang it/use it outside it will be faded out to nothing in a few weeks/months. So no, it would not be a choice for banners or car wraps. For those items you more than likely want a solvent...
  2. Coroplast and bubbles

Dale, your yard sign tool is the cat's meow for coroplast signs. Absolutely the fastest way to lay 'em down without bubbles or wrinkles. (Other than a flatbed or screen printer.) :thumb:
  3. one keyboard 2 computers

Yup, simple A/B switch is all you need if you are using 1 monitor. (Just depends on what kind of monitor you have, and whether your keyboard is USB or PS2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817399020 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817399032...
  4. Looking for PRO monitor

Apple has very nice monitors, so does Lacie for most applications. If you're working with critical color and want the absolute best, go with a Barco.
  5. Proper vinyl for drywall?

I did some lettering earlier this spring for a church on semi-gloss. I used Oracal 651 and hit it with a heat gun after application. Still holding up good, though I warned them that if they repaint in a few years they'll probably have to do some work with a mud knife. :Big Laugh
  6. roland cx300

Just searched on ebay and found your item. Not to rain on your parade, but SEVERAL things bother me... -First, this person has NO IDEA what this machine does or what it is for. How would they know what condition its in or how to verify said condition? It worries me that there isn't a...
  7. roland cx300

FWIW - just sold mine to another signs101 member for $1500. I've seen them go anywhere from $1,000-$2,000 depending on age and condition. If they're in good working order they are fantastic machines and worth every penny. 10X the machine of any of those cheap $500 chinese cutters. I'd be...

  11. New Business Owner

Welcome! Jumping into any business for yourself is a risky and sometimes exciting adventure. *Whether you will be profitable or not is another question. Hopefully you have some good business sense, or can hire an accountant or financial advisor to help you along the way. I know a...
  12. Shineright anyone?

I don't know what it is... FWIW - the vinyl seems to have a harder time staying stuck to the backer when weeding, especially on smaller letters and fine lines/type. I'll run the same job on red, black, blue whatever...white doesn't want to separate as easily as do the other colors. Again, I...
  13. Shineright anyone?

I was just going to add that. Just finished my last roll and now I use Oracal 651 for my white. All the other Shinerite colors seem fine, the white must act a little different due to the blue backer or the glue or something???:help:
  14. Shineright anyone?

I second OP. I use Shinerite on everything that doesn't require hp vinyl. (Yard signs, banners, etc.) Only exception if the customer needs a special color and then I usually go with Oracal 651. FWIW - I made a landscaper 10 yard signs out of the red shinerite last year. They were outside...
  15. digital cameras

Canon fan here too... Canon S3 and S5 are fantastic cameras with 12x zoom and image stabilization if you take long distance shots. They are a little larger somewhere inbetween a point and shoot and a DSLR. S3 is around $250-ish on sale and I've seen the S5 as low as $300 from Dell.
  16. MACs and sign cutting software

Ditto what Vinylman said. I ran SignCutX2 all last year on a DP G5 and just installed it on my new 24" imac and it also runs flawlessly. I design in Illustrator and then export to SignCutX2. $49/year or $99/3 years. You can even download and try it out for a week - FREE! I'm using a Roland...
  17. ** The Official Illustrator vs. Corel Draw Thread **

I come from an offset printing background and am currently using Illustrator. I do have an old copy of Corel - and probably should upgrade just to have something to play with. But, as was said - if it works.... :D
  18. Would like to buy flatbed

Ah, my mistake. Sorry 'bout that.
  19. Would like to buy flatbed

I've heard from a good source that Mutoh will be unveiling a new flatbed printer based on their ValueJet line soon. Rumor is it's very similar to the 64" VJ and pricing will be very aggressive compared to other flatbeds. *Again - just what I've heard. ;-)
  20. First Time purchase/set up

Agreed! After I read they were first running their own print shop this kind of hit home, as my family owns a print shop. We've lost a lot of business from churches and organizations who want to save a nickel and buy their own digital copiers etc. to do their own work. Especially after we...
